IIRC you need to reinstall ubuntustudio-themes package (or something along those lines)
and you should be able to pick out the original theme in gnome's appearance
preferences.

the top and bottom menubars ? IIRC I deleted a package yesterday and had
to delete the ubuntustudio-audio metapackage. That might have messed
things up, but reinstalling that package is not possible now, I have too
many custom-built apps that would be overwritten by the package. I've
reinstalled all the theme-related ustudio packages, got no joy on the
menubars. Incidentally the icon in the top left-corner of the display is
now the default Ubuntu icon, not the nice UStudio icon.
The default Jaunty theme on the menubars is just god-awful. It's got to
go. So how do I get it gone ?

Thanks to Ico and Bjoern, but alas, it doesn't change what I want
changed. Xterm borders/decorations are correct, but not the top & bottom
menu bars. Grrrr...

I fixed the problem yesterday by removing three items from the
/usr/lib/libgstreamer-0.10 :
libgstladspa.so
libgstx264.so
libgstlibvisual.so
And one from /usr/lib/libvisual-0.4/actor :
actor_fft.so
In truth I don't know which object caused the problem. I'll add them
back one by one to find the offender.
Of course I have no idea why this happened, particularly since I've made
0 changes to the GStreamer installation (or much of anything else in
this installation of Jaunty). Ah, the vagaries of Ubuntu.

Hi David,
try removing the file ~/.gconf/apps/gnome-settings/gnome-panel/%gconf.xml.
After logging out and logging into your users-account again the default
settings should be restored. (I did not try this, so keep a copy of the file
somewhere else, where you can easily find it).

P.s. try to consult man gnome-panel. There should be some information about
the configuration-files too.
