11:15 p.m.
I have just put together a soundfont from some of the free
samples made available a while back by Machinae Supremacy.. I
have made some very big soundfonts that include all the sounds,
and then a smaller more usable one, which still weighs in at
24MB!
I would be happy to share these, but I don't have any ftp server
at present. Does anyone have any suggestions where I could host
them?

i'd be happy to host them, unfortunately its on a slow dsl link server :(
i have been thinking though of starting up a website that hosts linux audio
stuff (samples, commons-licensed songs and loops etc). if you can't find
anywhere appropriate, then maybe i should think about the site harder :)

I think the creators of fluidsynth (soundfont player for linux) are hosting a free library
of soundfonts:

There's a cram utility that compresses/decompresses files in
libinstpatch/utils/. When I ran the autogen it reported an error about
a missing macro definition but I presume it's reasonable possible to
build the thing eventually.
Apart from that, it means that there's no utility to deal with these
for the time being ?
The sound files offered at the resonance site seems interesting. And
at least there's a possibility to unarchive these files without using
Windows (as in sfArk).

Maybe release it in the wild using bittorrent. Just seed it for a
couple of days, then let others take over. Bittorrent makes everyone a
publisher even for larger files.

There's always the free filehosters out there. www.mediafire.com has
been very good in my opinion!

The main one to grab is the "kit" file. The other three contain
all the samples if you are wanting to put your own kit together,
or write a drum track with a _lot_ of subtle variation in drum
sounds.

It would be good if you distribute your hydrogen drumkit.
One thing with soundfonts that seems to be better than hydrogen
is that you can set one sound to cut another (like hi-hats). Is
that possible in Hydrogen? I haven't heard that in any of the
kits I have..
The main reason I chose soundfont was so it could be easily used
in Rosegarden/dssi though.

We might get a bandwidth upgrade as soon as today, but the new servers
are not due until mid-June.
linuxaudio.org is planning to provide http-upload disk space for

projects* starting with git, svn and email-lists. - later trac & mantis.
For a good cause we can certainly arrange a ssh-login and customized
solutions.. - but we don't want to start "yet another soundfont
collection": we won't beat ccmixter etc in inventing rating schemas or
compete with the freesound project..
