Hi
Is there a tool that'll allow me to convert a file in sd2 format to wav
in linux? I tried sox, audacity and mhwaveedit, but this is a brand new
install, so maybe I need to install some codeces...
I asked google but it didn't give me anything useful.
Any input appreciated.

Any program using libsndfile (e.g., Ardour) should be able to read it,
as long as the data and resource forks of the original Macintosh file
are correctly represented.
If you have just the data fork, you can treat it as a big-endian raw
file, if you know the sample rate, bit depth and number of channels.

Yes. So far I have only seen SD2 files containing signed 8, 16 and 24
bit samples.

Thanks, that worked well with mhwaveedit. I even learned a bit along the

On the command line, sndfile-convert should do it. Audacity and mhwaveedit
use libsndfile so they should (assuming their file open model allows it) also
be able to read the file as long as you have the file's resource fork. See:

Atte, can you send a short example SD2 file to me ? I have the sdTwoWav
program, it opens okay in Wine but I have no SD2 files to test whether
the app actually works. :(

program, it opens okay in Wine but I have no SD2 files to test whether
the app actually works. :(

Try treating it like a RAW file. It has been some time but I am fairly
certain I used SOX specifically for this some time ago in a large batch
conversion of a few hundred to a few thousand sd2 files. Had to give it all
the pertinant data as the header file was not there.

Ahh, thats what happens when the SD2 file doesn't have a resource
fork.
Obviously, the error message could be improved :-).
