Hi folks,
I am putting together my music making tools as you know.
One such tool may be a Yamaha keyboard, with the representative at the
store I am visiting sharing that they feel sure the USB drivers for midi
in Yamaha do not support Linux?
can anyone confirm?

You have to be more specific than that. Which Yamaha models? Which USB
functions? USB-MIDI? USB audio? USB mass storage? DAW integration?

But of course, voice in my head suggested that might be important smiles.
the model in question is the dgx650
and USB midi, which is not my desire, but I simply wanted to confirm for
the store rep that indeed the Yamaha driver does not work in Linux.

this device can connect to an iPhone/iPad, which means it is USB class
compliant and therefor USB-MIDI should work with Linux/ALSA as well.

Hi,
If its a USB MIDI standard compliant device, then the linux USB MIDI driver
will work.
If Yamaha ship thier own driver for OsX and Windows, then it probably won't
work, unless you use a hardware MIDI cable and a seperate MIDI USB dongle.

If its a USB MIDI standard compliant device, then the linux USB MIDI driver
will work.
If Yamaha ship thier own driver for OsX and Windows, then it probably won't
work, unless you use a hardware MIDI cable and a seperate MIDI USB dongle.

I've once connected a Yamaha Motif synth to a
Linux box. Yamaha isn't known for extra drivers. That's usually Roland's
problem. If ytou need more than MIDI it might be a totally different thing though.
