However, since the Delta 1010LT is significantly cheaper, has lots of
Ins/Outs (albeit RCAs) and SPIDIF connections, I am now considering this
route. Can anyone give me any thoughts on it? I am far from a pro, but of
course I want something I will be able to live with for a number of years.
Those are _very_ different cards. If anything, i'd compare the RME
(probably Multiface) with the 1010 proper, not with the el cheapo
1010LT. Even then the cards are still quite different.
And the LT is not even balanced.
I suspect you probably don't need the RME if you look favourably upon
the 1010LT. If that's true, then it's simple: you need balanced analog?
then get the 1010. you don't need balanced? then get the 1010LT.
Actually, the 1010LT does have two balanced and preamped inputs that are
switchable via jumpers on the card. That has been enough for my usage.
If one wants better preamps, there are plenty of non-preamped channels
in which to ulitize an external one. For that matter, the built-in
channels 1 & 2 preamps can be bypassed (I think).
I agree that cards are quite different however. The circuit layout is
completely different. In fact, they never should have kept the model
numbers similier. It leads to confusion that the only difference is the
additional breakout box the 1010 has. There is a LOT of difference, but
the 1010LT is a fine card. Even with my home-built breakout box the card
is dead silent! I really REALLY have to crank up the inputs to see noise
on the input meters. At least twice the level my SBLive value shows noise.
