Hi guys,
I just thought I would mention, in case someone missed it. There are
some kind people who have started supplying RPMS for common applications
for various distributions.
PlanetCCRMA (http://ccrma-www.stanford.edu/planetccrma/software/) being
the most well known I think (PlanetCCRMA is for Redhat though).
Now there are a few places for Mandrake users to go:
- http://rpm.nyvalls.se/sound9.0.html - which I have successfully used
to test new versions of both Ardour and MusE.
This site keeps _very_ up to date, keeps many of the applications I'm
interested in right now.
- http://www.esm.rochester.edu/kevine/turnkey/home.html - which I
haven't tried but looks promising.
Scope here is more towards completeness than having the newest of
everything, this is the feeling I get anyway.

As one of the 'kind' people (Turn-Key listed below), I
would welcome any help others could offer in building
and maintaining packages for Mandrake.
I have begun building and packaging rpm's to create a
"urpmi" (an apt-get style tool for mandrake) download
site, but could always use the input of others (so far
it's just me).

New subject: [linux-audio-user] more on mandrake audio weirdness
... well... booted into old kernel
and it seems all is fine!!!
i'm wondering what will happen when i reboot...
im sure i had sound running in kernel 2.4.19
but at the moment im using 2.4.18 and its okay
left devfs bits in modules.conf
have added the reccomended lines to devfsd.conf as per the INSTALL file
in alsa-driver tarball
and thats it... modprobes, and hey presto it works.
god knows why!!! or for how long.....
but thanx everyone
if anyone has any ideas why this mystery might be going on .... i'd be
very curious! at least i've learnt a bit about devfs....
and found the turn-key site, very nice setup indeed :)
