Hi everyone :) Which is the best distribution for sequencer/composition? I have Rosegarden4 on Knoppix 4.0 but I can't get any sound (presumably I need to figure out jackd, but Knoppix doesn't have any of the nice Gnome front-ends). I'm thinking of upgrading to the latest Debian (on grounds of completeness) is there a better alternative? Jon.

For me there are only two serious audio distributions: 64Studio (Debian based) 64bit and 32bit or Jacklab (OpenSuse) 32bit 64Studio is stable and has gnome and a nice packaging system, but is also (like debian) a bit conservative with nonfree Software. Jacklab is more about experiments but things like linux-vst and wineasio are part of the concept. Jacklab comes with KDE or E17. greetings, Nils on 64Studio An Th schrieb:

If you would upgrading to the latest Debian you could have a looke her: http://sidux.com/index.php?module=pnWikka&tag=englishAudiostudio sidux is not a audio distributions, but you can simpel fit it to your need's it based on debian/sid and the latest rt-kernel is always aviable. greetz hermann

thanks for all the suggestions - I'm tempted to look at 64studio, but also jacklab as I use Suse and find it pretty straightforward (despite diabolic sleeping arrangements :P ) sorry for all the noob qs, but any reccomendations on a (cheap!) soundcard with DIN input as I have a v old MIDI keyboard and would rather pay money for a new soundcard than a new keyboard? then again, can you still even buy DIN cabling? Is the latest MIDI cabling USB presumably?

But if it's only midi with DIN you are after you could as well get a cheap midi-interface. /bengan
