Just got one -_- it works out of the box in usb 1.1.. in theory it
should also work in usb 2.0.. or that depends, what is the state of
usb2-audio on linux? if it's ok this litle thing should work in some way..
It's a real nice piece of hardware, the smell off quality is allover..
the only bad thing is that -15dB PAD's and phantom power is controlled
with dip switches wich aren't really accesible by hand..
So, does anybody know the state of usb2 audio on linux? it's supposed to
work in usb2 on newer macs without 'external' drivers...
And does anybody know how to set the default soundcard by name rather
than a number on archlinux. I've tried this;

I really can't seem to get it working..

USB2 Class Compliant devices should work on Linux yes with standard ALSA(As
long as it is reasonably up to date). To set the USBPre2 into USB2 mode,
hold Input Source Select Button 1 while plugging in the unit. I will be
very curious to hear your results as I am looking very strongly at one of
these units.

That's what you do to force it into usb1.1 :) where it works very well
indeed. In usb2 it works in 'capture only' not 'duplex' and not
'playback only', So I'm guessing it has something to do with the playback..

Hmm well that is mixed news then. If it can do it on capture that is at
least some good news for me as that is the main reason I want it, but
obviously playback working would be better.

Yup, it doesn't :/ but I might try it again.. I experienced some 'linux
magic' yesterday when my .asoundrc file suddenly started to work... so
maby it can happen for usb2 audio too... However, personally I don't
really have any use for usb2 atm, it works perfectly well as an
48khz24bit usb1 device :) It would be nice not to having to remember to
hold the input button when powering it on tho, where is alsa development
taking place?

Is it 24/48 as USB1.1 or is it only 16/48? The former is completely fine
with me, the latter limits it far to much for me.

It's the other way. When you press button "1", it forces usb1.1 mode.
I can't connect JACK without pressing this button. It seems to be the
reason for the bug, ALSA has problems recognizing the USB 2.0 mode.

I have one too, it's great. Technically it should work with usb 2.0, I
hope next alsa release it will be fixed. Then you can set the sample
rate to 96khz.
