Hi all.
As a New Zealander, I'm not privilaged enough to get the prices on audio
gear that the US citizens do. In fact an M-Audio Delta 1010LT (at the
current exchange rate) is going to cost twice as much here than from the
US. Ouch!
Does anyone recommend a website for purchasing recording gear online.
i.e had positive experiences, good price, service etc.
I'm looking at getting a mixer and a Delta 1010LT however I noticed some
sites such as http://www.zzounds.com/ don't ship internationally.

No great ideas Glenn, other than I'd trade living in New Zealand for
being able to buy in the U.S. any day.
One way you *might* go would be to link up with someone you trust, front
them the money for them to buy here and ship to you there. Depending on
what you buy and your risk tolerances maybe that would work for you.
Anyway, whether you're o the South Island or the North Island you live
in one of the coolest places I've ever traveled.

The person I'm referring to is dealing with Guitar
Center U.S. The budget is around $50,000 U.S. With
that budget there's alot of potential to save money.
One of the hitches is power; U.S. 110 vs Euro 220. My
suggestion was to wire his studio so all the power
goes through a common convertor (Lamba or whatever)
that recieves 220 and has modules for 110 or even
guitar effect voltages.
I think Guitar Center ships internationally and there
probably won't be any taxes. If you can purchase from
one vender, it might be possible to put small devices
into the same shipping carton as the mixer. Although,
that could void the warranty of the mixer--not sure.
Guitar Center is the largest U.S. retailer. I forget
the total number of stores in N. America but it's
probably a couple hundred and maybe alot more than
that. If a sales rep in L.A., California isn't helpful
enough, then contact a different one in New York City.
Sam Ash is the second largest U.S. retailer. And have
some fun, work them over as though they are stealing
your money. These damned wallet vacumes...oh, don't
even get me started.

I've had very good experiences with sweetwater. At times when I've been
shopping they have generally had the best prices on what I wanted. In
the one case where I had a problem with an item (bad buttons on my first
novation remote25), they sent me another one before I shipped back the
bad one and paid all the shipping.

I'm an Aussie but live in California...have for 15 years now. My Dad has come
over twice...similar dilemna only not quite as bad as I suspect the price
difference for NZ...
Anyway, poke around on Ebay for something that might be in your price range.
Have them ship it to someone in the US if they won't ship internationally.
The shipping is not that much if you don't mind waiting a few weeks. If you
want it faster...obviousley more. Friend of mine in Sydney bought a Senheiser
radio headset and shipped it here. I sent it priority and he had it in a week
for $20.00 US.
Delta 1010LTs...I have one. Looked and looked on Ebay until a used one came up
for $180.00. Snagged it and it is good! BEyond that $240 -$270.00 US is what
they go for. What kind of mixer? You don't need anything too elaborate unless
you are trying to mix an Orchestra live to hard disk. 8~) Mackie and
Behringer make cheap reasonable small mixers. Mackie being the better of the
two regarding noise. You should be able to pick your mixer up there 2nd hand
I should think. Just try to get your sound card from here. I think that's
where you might be able to save a buck.
