Hi guys,
I was wondering something these days.
What's the "good/right" session management these days?
(disclaimer: I know I know... good/right... not the right words... but
you all know what I mean!)
I can see that ladish has not been developed for a while... Last
commit on the SVN is almost a year old... the website ladish.org is
gone...
Is that considered a dead project with no future? Is there some other
format/protocol more recent to use?
I'm asking because I can't really find any recent info to enlighten me.

but it actually confuses me more than anything else.

now.

It would help if it managed to get packaged in debian (and other formats).
There is a debian bug for this (Bug#681576) which includes the whole non
series of stuff. It doesn't seem to have moved since 2012. Without
packages it is unlikely that NSM will be "the" system. I, for one, hope
someone (who knows what they are doing) will do the packaging... There is
a whole group of people who will not use things till that happens.
This is not meant to be fault finding (there is no fault to find), just
pointing out reality.

Just wanted to second Harry that I too would love to see NSM be used as
THE widespread session management system. In my (limited) experience with
session managers, I am very happy with it so far.
Hydrogen supporting NSM will be awesome. Next one in my dream-list would be
SooperLooper!

I tried NSM quickly - can it deal at a simple level with applications
that are not directly compatible with NSM?
If i use gladish as an example, I can save any jack connections (which
is really what I'm interrested here).

Yes: There's the "NSM Proxy" client, which can launch a program with
command-line arguments.
The jackpatch program included in NSM saves/restores JACK connections.

yep, you need to add the clients:
jackpatch (for (re)store connections)
nsm-proxy (for command-line options)
