Hi
Is there an commandline application that'll allow me to send program
change (and bank select) from the commandline? I'm trying to setup
something to flip programs on my hardware synths quickly between songs
in a live setting...

Not sure how that could be done. I was hoping for something that let

lines) to send bank select 2, program change 22 on channel 1 through

mididings can easily do what he wants, and would certainly qualify as
(kind of) a command line application. It's just that scene changes can't
be triggered from the command line, which never seemed particularly
useful to me.
mididings can be controlled via MIDI, OSC or a GUI frontend, all of
which are much more convenient, especially when playing live.

In between songs I don't wanna fumble with a gui. I wanna press space
and the next song is ready. I even have a nice menu that allows me to go
up/down in songs if the singer decides to jump around in the set.
I already this for changing songs in my old chuck setup, so it was
simply a matter of changing a few lines of code (I hoped) and I would be
good to go...

I did a zone based splitter + more with pyseq a few years back. Used it
on stage for about two years, no timing issues...

amidi can do it:
$ amidi -S "DEADBEEF"
Where DEADBEEF is hex midi data.

Ok, thanks, that seems the simplest. However things got time-consuming
(I don't have that kind of time atm) when I realized that I cannot have
my rolands (jv80/xp30) in patch mode and select a performance over midi,
or be in performance mode and switch to patch mode and select a certain
patch over midi.
Since I'm using performances for some tunes and patches for others, it
seems I need to create performances for all songs, which is too much for
the deadline I'm looking at right now...
But thanks for the help anyways!

Youcould use midish. It can run as an interactive shell or as a shell for
scripts.
I would have to look up the required commands, but you might easily do so
yourself here:

The up-to-date midish manual, which is very well written and structured. You
can either use predefined commands or if your synths require some sysex magic,
you can send direct sysex or write a small procedure (shell function) for it,
either in your ~/.midishrc - so it will be there all the time, or just in your
script.

Hm, a dirty way might be to create MIDIfiles with whatever you like, that
just contain the program and bank changes and use aplaymidi to send them. :-)
