Hi all!
This morning I can't seem to get QMidiArp working.
The custom UI isn't available anymore, for starters. No "Edit" in
Qtractor's menu, only "properties" witch would not be a problem (on the
contrary, I like generic UIs) if it was working :/ Note that there does
not seem to be a way to write patterns, like in the custom UI, the text
field for that is not present in the generic UI.
I'm used to QMidiArp, I've been using it for years, I know that you have
to tell him the MIDI channel ins and outs and such, but still, no luck.
I tried building it from source, that went pretty well, now I'm pretty
sure I have the last version installed, but still no luck.
Qtractor : 0.8.0.4git.415519 Qt 5.5.1)
QMidiArp : 0.6.5 (That's what the standalone version says, the LV2
plugin doesn't display any version)
Can somebody confirm that? This sad state of affairs is ruining my day :(

PS -wait, it's working (both UI and actual arpeggio) in the current
Qtractor build (0.7.9, Qt 4.8.7) so it's obviously a Qt problem ; is
there something I should tell to either Qtractor or QMidiArp build
script to get them to play together?

You are doing much better than I am then. I didn't realize that qmidiarp
could be used as a plugin because I had not seen it listed... neither
lv2_list nor lv2ls show it on my system. Yet when I use synaptic to see
which files are included in the package... there are the vl2s. But I don't
think they are supposed to be in:
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/lv2/qmidiarp_arp.lv2/qmidiarp_arp.ttl
So perhaps you have added that path to your qtracktor setup and:

When you built it from source they were correctly put in /usr/lib/lv2/
where they should be... but qtracktor is still seeing the old ones. Try
removing /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/lv2/ as a path from qtracktor. Or at
least confirming that the home built ones are still going there...
The other thing to look at is that both qtracktor and qmidiarp use the
same version of qt. (your repository should already have packages built
with the same GUI versions)

After setting qtracktor to see the qmidiarp plugin (adding the path) I am
able to see the plugin. I load it and can use the custom GUI. I have:
Qtracktor 0.7.1 with Qt 4.8.7
qmidiarp 0.6.3 with Qt 4.8.7
I think Qtractor is buildable with either qt5 or qt4, but I am not so sure
about qmidiarp. Check the configure switches in both cases.

Len gave the right hint, the plugins go by default into /usr/lib/lv2 , and it
maybe that you have several plugin locations from earlier installations that
you should remove.
If you need the plugins elsewhere (which you shouldn't) you can set
./configure --libdir=.....
And yes, QMidiArp can be built with Qt5 if you set
./configure --enable-qt5
and both host and plugin need to be the same Qt version.
