Guys, I was wondering:

I read this:

LAM is a mailing list for posting you Linux-made music, getting feedback and
finding collaborators.
Software trouble should be discussed in LAU and the coding side of things
should be sent to LAD.
But there it seems that only one person (Julian) posts his music in the last
two years.
I see that music is been posted on all LA- lists occasionally, but I was
never sure whether it was the right place for posting (the various LA-
lists)
It would be nice to have a place where Linux music is posted and people
(audiophiles/musicians/linux geeks) make comments about it and generally,
hang out, say like http://www.zoxsy.com/
Any ideas, suggestions about it?

a while, thought it would be good to have a dedicated list for that. So
he set one up. But assuming not that many people subscribed, some
started to post to both LAM and LAU about their music. Others continued
to post to LAU only.

We could agree on a more specific keyword, but things like this tend to
not spread as they should.
Regarding the "it would be nice", sure, it's always the same: you need

I didn't know the story.
It was odd for me to see the LAM list wasn't in the same place as the
others LA- lists, but Julien still posting on that list and, although
there are several suscribers, I thought that its low traffic was due
to vacations.

Don't take it personally Will, I think its more to do with the nature of the Internet
these days - so many emails, updates, upgrades, new progs to compile, new progs to try,
"must see" you tubes to watch etc etc etc!
Like my bro tells me "sorry mate, I just don't have the bandwidth this
week!"
Give us a link to Clockworks and I guarantee I'll give you a comment :)

It is just over 11 minutes long.
I liked the idea behind the suite. I was left wondering why there was
a bottle blowing sound in the first tune.. perhaps a clock chime (or a
variety of bells) might have suited it better? I think this music
would not be at all out of place in a children's cartoon or as
background music in a related documentary. That being said, it did
sound very "background". No real tunes to hum. Some of the melodies
seemed random to me. Also, for a clockwork based theme, there were a
couple of iffy bits of timing for the lead parts I think? Complete
hard quantization would be entirely appropriate here.
The whole does hang together well though, and I enjoyed the sounds you
used. I think the last one is my fave - has some bladerunner-ish
aspect to it. What's the analog synth sound you used for that tune and
also the other sound you used for the main part in time thief?

I'm afraid a disasterous crash was never on the cards - not really my
thing, although the 'Apprentice' gets a bit borderline in places :)

Originally I did have a percussive sound the the 'Clockmakers' theme,
but no matter what I did it never sounded right. The sound I finally
used was a happy accident while clicking through various options.
The idea of a cartoon/animation has been mentioned before, and I do
intend to follow up on it.
There is in fact very hard quantisation on all but the lead lines
(which were all played live). I take your point that the timing is a
bit borderline sometimes (although in the 'Apprentice' this is quite
deliberate of course).
Apart from some of the percussion, all the sounds are created in
ZynAddSubFX - even the TickTock. It may surprise you to know that the
'Machine' is totally Zyn.
