G'day,
In recent advertising one of my nearby retailers has listed:
"I.Mix Club USB DJ MIDI Controller"
... which can apparently stand on one corner looking cute, but doesn't
list Linux as a capability. Does anyone know if this thing will work on
Linux? All I want is to capture the control movements, not the audio
processing they claim for their software. They do claim
"class-compliant USB MIDI device".

A "class-compliant USB MIDI device" generally works plug and play on
Linux. Maybe you can test it with the option of sending it back? (Btw. I
think $399 is a bit stiff)

I'm open to considering something cheaper ... but this is the only DJ
MIDI Controller available to me by retail shopfront in the Australian
outback, and even then I'd have to get them to "order it in" and spend
$50 in fuel to get there and back. ;-}

Jaycar does mail order - or is the $50 fuel bill just to your local mail
drop?
(And from my experience of Jaycar, their price are somewhat inflated.)

No, only $10 to the local mail drop. With mail order though you don't
get to see it or try it out first. And one can bend the arm of a
retailer to a greater extent than a mail order business. And the mail
doesn't always work ... one computer system by mail order took three
months. The final path to the local village is on the back of a ute.
But really, I'm cheap.
