Hi,
Is there any recordings/slides/notes from Jeremy Jongepier's workshop "A
musician's workflow: composing, recording and arranging with qtractor
and friends" at LAC 2011?
I'm very interested about his views, but couldn't find anything from the
web, except this:

I'll give it a try:

The tapes have been captured and I've started editing. So far kdenlive
doesn't like a system without PulseAudio or the avi files sitting on a
NTFS drive apparently so I didn't get very far yet. I'll continue tomorrow.

slide). It had trouble using alsa until I worked out that you need to
install 'libsdl1.2debian-alsa'. (in ubuntu, probably the same in debian).
Another gotcha that took me a while to work out is that the version of
ffmpeg on ubuntu lucid won't read ogg theora videos properly, so you
need to either use a newer distro, or compile your own ffmpeg from the
website. (if you compile your own you need to add --enable-libtheora
--enable-libvorbis to the configure flags to be able to export to ogg
theora).
One question I have is whether you have captured the screenshot and
camera streams separately on disk to edit later? The raw video of my
talk spends a lot of time faded to the screenshot.

though, those avi's are just too big.

I didn't capture the screen no. Would've been possible but it would've
added another estimated 10 or 15% extra load on my tormented notebook.

Clip/cut can be done easily using oggz-chop. It's a loss-less way to
edit ogg files.
However pre-pending an intro slide is more complicated than it ought to
be. OGG files with an ogg-skeleton track can simply be concatenated but

Alas, no. We only had one DV scan converter and captured the output
after the video-mixer.
We do have raw DV files (better quality than the encoded OGG/Theora) for
each presentation. But they're in the order of 8-10 GB per presentation.

It's ok - I just wanted something I could put up quickly on vimeo for my
friends to watch in a browser, and their player only does 640x480
anyway, so the quality was good enough.

seq24 expose it's MIDI ports (so that I can connect it's patterns to
what I want from qjackctl say)?
David answered that one already. seq24 also has a command line option -m
(--manual) but afaik that doesn't work properly.

I got a little confused during testing. In the end it turned out that
the bazaar checkout (bzr.125), if started with --manual-alsa-ports,
sets [manual-alsa-ports] in .seq24rc to 1 on application shutdown.
So in that case it is a command line switch that, once used,
"permanently" turns manual alsa ports on. I doubt this is the intended
behavior.

--manual_alsa_ports, works fine here with 0.9.1.
