There is a degradation of the performance (3:1 in my code for sound synthesis) caused by a bug in glibc 2.17 (more info here [2]). Some distros are updated (for example fedora [3]) but in some cases, one is the last slackware 14.1, it is necessary to recompile the sources after the application of the patch.
