When I yesterday read that he died, I couldn't get rid of one of his
songs. In my mined I heard one song again and again.
It's a well known song, while I prefer songs of The Velvet Underground,
yesterday none of those songs was in my mind, just that hit from him
bothered me.
This comes to mind by the the discussion about "I remember something my
father said when I was very small. "If you *really* enjoy something,
never do it as a job". He was right."
To make a living out of something often is far away from the good
emotions, ok, this is another thread.
What song comes to your minds, when thinking of Lou Reed?
I bet most will hear the same song as I did hear in my mind.
Is the song you hear in your mind, the best song he performed?

They never were a so called "Neue Deutsche Welle" Band, this performance
is a "we need money to live" performance, originally they where _real_
rock musicians.
The "walk on the wilde side" robbery was always a PITA, but the original
version wasn't that bad.
They are a good example, why you can't live from rock'n'roll in Germany.
They are good musicians, but just embarrassing when they tried to make a
living with their music.
We have real blamable pseudo-rock'n'rollres, in Germany Kreator, Sodom,
etc. pp.. Extrabreit were "good guys", but lost their souls as many,
many other good musicians.

I have very warm memories of a greatest hits collection based on his first
several albums I got possession of when I was 15 or so. The songs that hit
me were Coney Island Baby, Sweat Jane and Wild Child. I was totally hooked
by their sentimentality, and the fact that he used the word "rain" a lot.

"Walk on the Wild Side" and I couldn't get rid of "Walk on the Wild

hometown had a song that was based on "Walk on the Wild Side". It's a
pity, with Firefox I can fake my IP, so I theoretically could listen to
all the songs that the GEMA (a devils collecting society) makes
unavailable for Germans, but I need Adobe F... if I use google-chrome I
can play flash contend, but can't fake the IP, so I'm unable to listen
to some Velvet Underground recordings I don't own myself.

The first song that comes to my mind is "Venus in Furs", but I love all
"The Velvet Underground & Nico" songs. Those songs have a certain
quality to them that I enjoy.

I've always heard "hey, babe, lets take a walk on the wild side" over
and over for many years, but its not till recently that it came to me
very strongly, and what it is about. How we are "managed" and
encouraged to act like pets or tamed creatures. A truly liberated
human being can indeed by a wild thing, and that IS sadly scary to
some people, but some people can handle it, like Lou Reed could ?
