Hi
A couple of weeks ago I announced a gig with my electronic project,
modlys. One of the audience recorded a couple of tracks on his mobile,
and the first one is here:

Looks nice. Sounds nice. I like your singer's voice. What language - I
suspect German but it sounds rather Japanese to me?

I have my little doubts about the drums. Maybe they're a bit to load /
clean together with the sounds.
One suggestion could be to use two types of drum sounds? To build up the
song a bit, you start with a more gentle and more soft drums and
somewhere in the end you put in the more load/ clean drums and maybe
then you back to the more soft drums again?
Dunno, just an suggestion or point for discussion.

The drums are an keyboard? Maybe it is possible to post only the ChucK
part, so we learn a bit more about ChucK and what it can do and how it
sounds?

I understand what you mean, but:
1) This is a direct recording, the room always adds ambience.
2) This is one of the few aggressive tracks in our mostly meditative
setting. It provides a good contrast to the other soundscapes.

That's possible. Part of the idea however is the abrupt effect of the
drums entering so suddenly and suggesting another feel that had been
before (the pad in 6/8 the vocal in 3/4).
Dunno, just an suggestion or point for discussion.
Reflection is always good. Will consider things again when I work on the
tune again in my DAW.

Oh, that's very nice Atte. Excellent piece of electronica - well
composed and played. The singer is delightful both to hear and see.
She doesn't cut loose in this piece as I imagine she can, but her
phrasing and control are very good.

Actually she (my wife, btw) is most comfortable keeping a bit back, but
it fits what I try to do in this project (simple, to-the-bone melodies)
quite well.

The balance is great, don't listen to the other criticism (I'm a sound
engineer)
At a club where I work regularly, we shoot cameramen who walk on the
stage. :)

to be for the shots he wanted. Agree it looks a bit stupid, but we plan
on editing him out in the real video :-)

Are you uploading more videos of the session? You
didn't happen to
render the whole thing? It would be cool to hear more what can you do
with ChucK.
I'm gonna upload more for sure. We recorded the whole thing (17 tracks)
from the master bus on the house mixer. This is just a mobile phone from
the audience, but we also have a still camera, a handheld HD camera +
the visuals can be re-created. So we plan to do one or two tracks using
all video sources for a more polished result.
