Probably not the greatest display of what you can do with a linux box
this, but we just released two albums and an ep yesterday. The albums
are grindcore of the short variety (both albums are 19 songs in just
above 2 minutes), but the ep (The Piece.....) is a simple acoustic
song in 5/4 with some weird stuff on top. Even managed to use zita-at1
in there. It'll only take you 7 minutes to listen to all the three
releases, so take a listen to the band that only exists because we
thought it was funny that noone had ever used this word in a bandname
before ;p

are in my taste but the idea of 19 songs or parts in 2+ minutes is cool and it
is in fact possible to listen to it. :-)
The song Poltergeist from "The Piece Of Cod Which Passeth All Understanding"
is on the other hand something I understand better and I really like it, but
hey: -Use a pop-filter when recording the vocals! If you don't have a pop
filter, then a stocking do in fact help or you can try to make a pencil sit
vertically in the front of it with a rubber band or something if you don't
have a pop filter, you used a dynamic mic?. :-)
Cool concept, all that songs/parts on two albums and one song in a EP with
different titles for the song and EP - and what a title! :-) - in fact the
titles all over the albums are great. I think I'm going to smile and chuckle
many times the next day(s) when thinking about it. This is something new, at
least for me.
It has been more and more creative and very audible moments in in the LAU-
world lately where music is not the only creative part. I just love it :-)

This is a trend I'm enjoying and fully expect to continue and

Heh, weird that, I actually used a pop-filter on that (I'm guessing
you're talking about the talking part), but I guess my pop-filter
isn't very good, or the guy must have been pronouncing the stuff too
hard. I did remove the worst pops with some gain reduction, but of
course you can still hear them. Hoping most people are too distracted
by the weird sentence to actually notice, haha :P Any tips for fixing
the recording as it is? I'll have to try and fix that sometime.
Thanks for the praise though. We plan to release a total of 5 albums
and 4 ep's by the end of the year, where the ep's are a sort of relief
from the 19-part bursts. Hopefully they will all be an interesting
listen even if the albums aren't to your liking! Here's to hoping my
creativity keeps the promise of our plans. The vocalist doesn't seem
to have any trouble making weird lyrics that we can produce weird
titles for ;)

Hehe, that's funny! Kinda trivialises the work that went into the
actual music (there's a lot of guitar riffs in those 2 minutes!), but
I like it! I'll make sure to use it in a future song ;)

For a start: -You will probably begin with a HPF and grind away some (more)
bass/low mid from both the acc guitar and especially the voice (steep curve
possible 18dB and at least 50-60 Hz for a starter). The voice will loose some
bottom, but that does not matter when it's i a mix, it will also be clearer.
When sounding together, the low end of the pops and the bottom in the guitar
makes bad synergy effects, muddying up the sound like it is now. So HPF alone
will probably make a big difference. Make sure that if you are using a
compressor, it should come after the HPF
When that is done and if it's still more to do, you might even try to use a
deesser or a multiband compressor on the remaining pop. A deesser can do much
more that taming esses and Beside of voice, I use for example deessing for
removing unwanted glitches and finger noise from guitars if they are to
annoying. The plugin you will use is TAP DeEsser and yo have to experiment
with it. Let's hope you don't need it :-)

never do that, this is grindcore man! Hell with pop filters!
(hell with microphones all together, there is a performance of
pig destroyer where the singer breaks the mike and keeps singing
with no amplification whatsoever and that just kicks) (problem is:
how to release such a thing) (well, you don't, it's just live madness)
What you hear here is cybergrind if I may, drum machine work typical
of that genre (what? /sub/genre? are you sane?)

Hah, that's awesome. Kinda reminds me of Excrementory Grindfuckers.
Totally random at times, and those screaming vocals. Not really easy

Sounds much better, you will probably have to use automation (or editing) or a
multi band compressor for further improvement (if possible). Out of curiosity,
what did you do? Did you use my suggestion as a starting point or did you do
something complete different?
And while we're at it, you will in general get a much clearer sound by using a
12 dB hipass filter for removing some low end/mid from the guitar(s).
I hope you don't mind that I do this suggestions, it's not in disrespect for
you - it's respect for the song (which I like a lot) and therefore you. :-)

I played around a bit with both a hipass and the deesser, without
getting any desirable results. I played around some more with the
compressor on the track, and probably didn't get it back to where it
used to be, but the main difference is probably more from playing
around more with the gain on the two P sounds. If we do anything
similar vocal wise on the next ep I will keep this stuff in mind
during recording. I liked the real raw sound of the talking on this
recording, but think we could experiment with some heavy hipass
filters next time.
And while we're at it, you will in general get a
much clearer sound by using a
12 dB hipass filter for removing some low end/mid from the guitar(s).
I tried a little bit on the guitars too, but I left them as they were
on this round. Working on the musical bit for the next ep sometime
next week, and there's a bit of the same guitar on there, will
experiment some there. After all, can't have these so-called
'experimental' ep's sounding the same! :D
I hope you don't mind that I do this suggestions,
it's not in disrespect for
you - it's respect for the song (which I like a lot) and therefore you. :-)

Just released a new experimental ep with this project. In essence,
it's a lot like the last one, but we added some drums and did a
different kind of vocals. It feels kinda busy and relaxing at the same
time. And the ending might seem out of place, but it's supposed to
lead straight into the next album, which we hope to release maybe
already next week.

Nah, just used the M-Audio mobilePre. Used guitarix_echo a little bit
for effect though.
