Hi,
i've got a question, because I couldn't find anything in the
documentation: Is it possible to run Ingen as Jack Client and if yes,
how can I do that?
I tried all the parameters and the GUI "ingenuity" (or similar) but
either Ingen tries to connect to some unfamiliar servers or to start a
jack-server itself (which doesn't work either).
Are there other modular DSSI- and Jack-capable syntesizers besides Ingen
(since AMS isn't DSSI-capable)?

Ingen is designed as jack client.
Look at the help page, you should be able to find the right commands to
start ingens engine somehow as either separate thread or in the same
thread.
It's a bit confusing, I know... had to ask dave myself and I think I
forgot again how it works..

This doesn't exist anymore, so you must be running an old version.

Hi Esben,
sorry, but that was an old mail I re-posted. I tried it with the latest
SVN version and yes, there is no ingenuity anymore but I never tried
"ingen -e" and seperately "ingen -g" :) This helps.... thank you.
Jost did the job as well.
The only problem is: I originally wanted to use such modular synths
because of dssi-vst. Well, this doesn't seem to work because dssi-vst
needs a parameter on initialization (the desired vst-plugin). Therefore
I can't run a dssi-vst in Ingen or Jost.
The question of all questions: Is there a way to use VST plugins in a
modular synth like AMS, Jost (or Ingen, but i'd rather use the other ones)??

Not quite so -- dssi-vst presents itself as a single plugin library
containing multiple plugins, each of which has a standard DSSI name
string. The plugins in the library correspond to the VSTs found on
the disk, and their names match the VST library names. So to select a
VST plugin (say myvst.dll) through dssi-vst, you need to tell your
host to load the plugin that has name "myvst.dll" from library
"dssi-vst.so".
This is just the same as the way you would select any other DSSI
plugin that appears in the same library as other plugins. It should
be possible in any DSSI host. If the host makes, for example, a menu
of all available plugins to select from, then all of the VSTs should
appear in it as separate plugins.
(n.b. I haven't actually tried using dssi-vst in Ingen or Jost.)

Well, with Jost it doesn't work. At least not on my computer. When I try
to load dssi-vst into the patch-area the prog freezes. No chance of
trying anything else. And with ingen: Where do I have to put my plugins
to? The basic DSSI_PATH=/usr/local/lib/dssi (tried others, even own
paths) seems not to be the right choice since I cannot find the DSSI
plugins in ingen. Exactly like I didn't found anything about this issue
on the drobilla site.
When i set the ladspa path to the location where the dssi plugins are,
then i can find them (except for dssi-vst) but when i load any of them,
there is no midi-input (which is not very odd, since they are listed as
ladspa-plugins, not having any midi-inputs so far).
Alles sehr merkwürdig.
