Hi
Suppose I have an un-looping sample that I know will loop glitchfree
with loop start set to x and loop end set to y (x and y in samples). How
can I set those points in the sample (I guess it's actually in the
header) from the commandline?
I'd love to do it with ecasound, since I already use that in the python
script I'm working on...
Is it possible to modify the header directly or it's that asking for
trouble?

Hello Atte!
You can do it with Ecasound. Ecasound's select object supports time in
samples. From the Ecasound manual I gather, that you have to tag on sa, so:
-i:select,2500sa,4800sa,input.wav
Should start the input.wav at 2500 samples in and will play 4800 samples. I
suppose, if you already use python, you can easily write a mini function to
convert from stop-sample to the duration syntax.

Maybe I'm wrong, but aren't you talking about playing a sample with
ecasound? I want to "embed" the loop start and loop end points in the
sample so that other software will load the sample and recognize my loop
points. Or was that what you meant?

Oh I'm sorry, I didn't know, that wav or some other Ecasound readable format
supports infile looping. I was thinking of saving a modified file and then
looping it or just using Ecasound directly to loop it. No I don't know how to
embed looping points in an audiofile with ecasound/
But there should be sfubar, whichcan create soundfonts. If it isn't
available for download anymore, I can put it up for you. It's quite simple
relies on a config-file being written but can then output a soundfont combined
of several audiofiles and I think it also supports looping, one reason the
chap who wrote it, wanted it for.

that depends in large part on the other software and the envelope
format (WAV, AIFF etc) that you use for the audio file. WAV has no
standard chunks to describe loop points, for example.

Not sure I could handle this. Perhaps with help. Or perhaps if someone else
does this, I can use that code to test on a different machine.
