Hi,
It looks like hdspconf isn't working for the madiface. I found a link
where someone tried different firmwares and set the world clock by using
amixer.

Hello,
I have been trying to use the hdspm driver with a recently purchased RME
Madiface device. The functionality that I require is to play various
files through various channels under program (script) control. I am
happy to report that it *almost* works - in that I can use my simple
userspace programs to play files. However, there are subtle problems -
in that the external MADI A-to-D (an Euphonix 703) does not seem to lock
into the sampling rate (something that works under windows). Its very
close to achieving full functionality (for my needs) - but just that
tiny bit away from being fully useable.
Any ideas?
Havent had much luck contacting RME and Winfried Ritsch (who
wrote/maintains the code).
Information on the the hardware and/or windows code would help to figure
out how to modify the driver (which was originally written for the rme
9652/aes32 devices).

This is a common problem with the current hdspm driver (both with MADI and
AES32). Apparently Florian Faber is planning on overhauling it as well as
work on some of the other RME drivers. He also plans on developing a user
space library for some of the common RME functionality. Very ambitious, but
he seems determined.

I have interest in anything hdspm related because I built a system for a
friend using an AES32...
I forwarded this to Florian Faber and this was his reply:

locking sync with
the hdspm driver.
Thanks. I don't know the list. The source of the problem is that the
MADIface runs with 125MHz internally and the old driver doesn't know
about this, so the wordclock the MADIface uses is about 17% too slow.
If people want to patch the old driver themselves, it's just one line:
Go into hdspm.c, to line 845:
n = 110100480000000ULL; /* Value checked for AES32 and MADI*/
And change it to
n = 131072000000000ULL; // 125 MHz
