Hello,
I am using Debian GNU/Linux (Unstable) on my multimedia machine with a
M-Audio 1010LT and need to sample all 8 channels at the same time.
Which tool can I use for it?
I have tried Audacity but it does not work.
Note: I need the eight audiotrack in the same project and I must work
on them like in Audacity where I have all tracks togehther.

Ardour would be the natural choice.
I have tried Audacity but it does not work.
Interesting. I should try that with my Delta 1010 (non-LT version).
Note: I need the eight audiotrack in the same project
and I must work
on them like in Audacity where I have all tracks togehther.
Ardour has different kinds of functionality regarding the kinds of
editing that you can do on the tracks. But, once you've done the
recording in ardour, you can do some editing in audacity. I do that
whenever I need to, and it works fine.

It's on version 2.0.5, is full of features and amazingly stable.
Compiles beautifully on Debian testing.

Hi!
Why don't you try ecasound (www.eca.cx/ecasound) or debian package.
It runs on the console, runs smooth, doesn't use much power on my system and
can sample the 8 channels in one or each channel in a track. Also you can
script it.

Hi,
Also there is Timemachine, wich is, I think, the simpliest recorder up to 8
channels in one. But you will need Jack Too.
Then you can import your recorded file in audacity.

I will try it, but I run "amd64" where I have problems with some programs
(this is, WHY I use Debian/unstable since Stable is non-utilisable)

I just tried
arecord -c 8 -r 44100 -f S16_LE 8channel.wav
on my STaudio dsp2000 (same chipset as the 1010)
That command produces an eight channel wav file that can be opened
in audacity:

This if you don't want to disturb ardour, which needs a well tuned system to run
smoothly.
