My Delta 1010 died this past weekend (nothing but a nasty hum coming
out of all outputs, research showed that a fried input power supply
capacitor may be the culprit). I am biting the bullet and upgrading to
the RME Hammerfall Multiface. I seem to recall some issues not too far
back with using this with Linux and an upgraded Multiface BIOS (which
I assume is the PCI card). Is this still the case? Any other things to
be aware of with this hardware? The user's manual actually mentions
Linux (and also says not to listen to Microsoft), so I take this as a
good sign. :-)
And hdspmixer is the Linux equivalent of the TotalMix tool?

there are no known issues with it at this time, although a few newer
features of the h/w are not available.
And hdspmixer is the Linux equivalent of the TotalMix tool?
correct. you *must* run this before getting any sound out of the box -
there is no other tool that can manipulate the matrix mixer and its all
silenced at driver loading time.

I must admin I do not know the correspondance between ALSA versions and the kernel
versions they get bundled with but I recently had an issue with kernel version 2.6.24.
hdspmixer showned signal on the output but the actual output was silent. Rolling back to
kernel version 2.6.23.12 fixed the problem. All kernel versions I have tried prior to
2.6.24 have worked flawlessly with it.
I have not yet had occasion to use the MIDI features but the audio has worked very well
and sounds very good.

part of ALSA, 2.6.23 works nicely.
If you want to run 2.6.24 I'd suggest to get the latest ALSA and compile
the driver from the new sources.
