HAL continues to grow! :)
So I got my Dell Laptop sorted now. I have embellished the setup by
putting it on my CII Docking station which has 2 PCI slots. I had a SB
Live card and bought another. I have them now tied together via
.asoundrc file and running stable as 4 ins 4 outs w/Jack. Can't get
lower than 512 but thats ok.
Still using Ardour as my interface for plugins...
Here's the next question...
I'm thinking about the possibilities. Can I get midi control of plugins
via Ardour or Jack rack or other app so I can use a midi controller
footswitch to turn FX on or off from a footswitch? My thought is that
other than just reverb on vocals, I could set up vocoder and delay stuff
for harmonies, etc. The midi control needs only to be "on/off" and also
to be able to leave more than one effect on at a time.

I've used Alsa Modular Synthesiser for that - it has lots of ways to
control effects from MIDI.

I think I've seen the same problem, try running AMS with the -jack flag
to tell it to use the Jack server. (I think, I've not got AMS in front
of me to confirm at the moment.)
This should enable AMS to run...

It should show also audio ports....

Yes. I've never seen this problem myself. Are you running it from a
console? If so do you seen any output?

Yes. I've never seen this problem myself. Are you running it from a
console? If so do you seen any output?

I dont see the "Connected to Jack w/2 ins and 2 outs.
I did see on the SF ams page that the ins and outs needed to be specified(?)
Also, this is running on my "ttable" .asoundrc config with 2 x SBlives.
Jack is setup with 4 inputs and 4 outputs. Perhaps AMS does not expect to
see this? I just assumed if it's humming along in Jack without problems
AMS would figure it out. Ardour recognizes the 4 ports without issue.

Gotta say, I have been hot on the trail of this Linux Audio stuff here
in the last 2 weeks and I'm frankly amazed at what I'm doing at home
with this stuff at this point.I already used the Ardour / Jack combo on
just the laptop at a gig for digiatl reverb on vocals...Now I'm creating
a bloody monster with all this other stuff. But hey, if this works, It's
about the equivalent of $1000.00 US digital processing gear at least!
And its more fun to boot!
