Hi,
I just want to explore the vst possibilities on Linux. Which apps are
good 'hosts'?
ardour (not realy i think)
LMMS ?
Qtractor?
I'm especially interesting in the possibilities of Qtractor in this
area. How should i compile qtractor to enable vst? How good is the
support? Where can I find more information about it?

if you mean native vst (http://www.anticore.org/jucetice/?page_id=4), you can use directly
in qtractor or use jucetice as host to connect through jack to other applications;
if you mean normal vst (windows dll or binaries), i use wineasio (version 0.5) + vsthost
(http://www.hermannseib.com/english/vsthost.htm), and through jack i connect to other
applications.

please read README.VST file in qtractor's source distribution :) and
remember you must obey to steinberg's license :)
