Hello. I'd like to rec from the microphone from my code. What I've done
is to call "sox -t ossdsp -s -r 44100 -c 1 /dev/dsp -t .wav melodia.wav
&" from my code (GUI). The problem is that I need to add the "&" at
the
end, because in other case, the sistem doesn't respond. But in this way
I need to send a kill signal. This run ok in most of the cases, but not
in all of them. Sometimes, sox takes a wrong header (wrong size of the
file), which doesn't ocurr at all if i run sox from the command line
without the "&" at the end.
Does anyone have any idea that what can i do?

Thinking outside the box, is there anythng that you want from sox
that can't be supplied by libsndfile and libsamplerate? Using these
libraries means you wouldn't have to worry about spawning and
controlling another process.

If thats all you want to do you should go to the oss website. They have
this pdf file tutorial on how to write basic programs to record and play
from /dev/dsp. I used the tutorial to write a command line wav file
player for my zaurus. I did not want to use something large like
opie-mediaplayer or mplayer.

Sorry, I have to disagree with this advice.
The OSS audio sub-system is deprecated. ALSA is the future of audio
on Linux.
Even writing directly to ALSA is not too wise a move. I would instead
suggest writing to either JACK (if your program is for high end audio)
or ESD/PolypAudio for a desktop application.

Thank you!! I finally just used alsa functions to record and play, and
it worked properly!!
