Hi all,
I'm using an m-audio quattro usb soundcard with my laptop using alsa 0.9.2.
I'm experiencing the audio device periodically shutting down - I have to
unplug and plug in the usb cable a few times before it comes back up.
It is better than it was - I was getting system freezes with a previous
version of alsa, so it sounds like the driver might be the culprit.
I just wondered if anyone else has experienced this problem, and might have
found a solution. It only occurs every hour or so of use, it's quite intermittent.

What's your kernel?
I run it with 2.4.19 using uhci and ohci drivers and haven't had this
problem.

Same with me, and I'm able to use a usb trackball and the quattro at teh
same time without any sound distortion.

What's your kernel?
I run it with 2.4.19 using uhci and ohci drivers and haven't had this

That's strange, I'm using the quattro with redhat 8.0 and the latest
version of alsa, but I'm using the ccrma acpi kernel. Maybe you're using a
slightly older kenerl, there could be problems with older drivers maybe.

Yeah, I'm conservative and stick with the stock low latency / acpi kernel
from planet ccrma, its built on the 2.4.19 kernel and works really well
for me.

Yeah, the problem could be too new a system, if you're trying to use
redhat 9.0, I learned my lesson and I only upgrade my system after ccrma
upgrades their rpms, when I went to redhat 8.0 too soon my whole studio
was disabled for a month.

I *think* I'm running 2.4.17, but not 100% sure (at work at the moment) but
it's definately not cutting edge or anything.
I'm using a thinkpad which uses apm - could this be a problem?

That could be, what I would do is upgrade to the planet ccrma low latency
kernel with acpi, I've got a 533mghz pIII with 250 megs of ram running
with the quattro and get low latency and can run the quattro forever
without it shutting down on me.

I can get as low as 512 bytes/period with jack but with
jacklaunch(libjackasyn) I can only use 2048 reliably.
I use it mostly with a 1Ghz, 512 MB, ASUS mini ATX mobo.

thinkpad 600e ?
one thing i had to do with mdk 9.0 and the quattro on my thinkpad was to
disable the IR port. i have to do this in winblows too to get the modem
to work... the interrupts get really crammed up in these babies...
