Hey guys,
I just found this website in my search for music production/linux
laptop. http://www.adkproaudio.com/systems/laptop.cfm
I thought the prices were good but what strikes me as the deal maker
is the ability to save 100 bucks BY NOT INCLUDING AN OS!
Does anybody have any feedback about them? Im really thinking about
getting the 14 inch monitor laptops.

well if saving money is what youre after, you can do what they do and buy the chasiss from
ASUS, Clevo, MSI, and throw in parts from newegg..
they are designed to be assembled by humans after all

my MSI barebones is still kicking it 2.5 years later. lasted longer than any thinkpad i
had. its fallen 5 feet onto a hardwood floor numerous times and nothing has cracked or
come looose. i chalk it up to the magnesium(maybe?) case and good design..

computer from newegg parts, but I would not have thought that a
notebook computer would be possible. Do you have a link to some
websites that would give instructions or clues?

hi all. this sparked my interest as well, and i looked around a bit to find
that the term 'whitebook' is probably what you are looking for. i'm going to
keep looking myself, but i thought it might help you :)

That's probably correct Porl - assemblers of generic computers from
off-the-shelf parts are typically called "white box" vendors. Using the
search phrase putting together a white box laptop brings up this:

Be careful; lots of laptop chipsets are unusable for low latency work
due to excessive use of SMM traps for things like power management.
The typical symptom is xruns at regular intervals, when querying
battery status, when plugging or unplugging AC power cord, etc.
Presumably the hardware on the ADK site has been verified free of SMM
problems, singing capacitors, poor shielding, and all the other common
issues that make many laptops unusable for pro audio.

suitable? i'm not a fan of apple, but a lot of people seem to use their
hardware for audio work, so i assume they are ok for it, but what about
others? i'd prefer not to get a mac when i finally save up for one.
