Long time ago I wanted to post this tune on LAU list, but for one reason or
other, I didn't.
However, in these v cold days here in England, I thought it might be nice
and warming to share the followng tune

It's name is GM, which are the initials of my wife's surname, Ginka
Mastoridis. It was made last year when she decided to take on my surname,
and I felt that this act is an act of honour, I had to react - and so made
this little instrumental piece....
Performed on Baglamas (again) as a solo instrument, using Ardour for audio
amd Muse for midi, this was my first finished Linux audio production about a
year ago. Old-fashioned, classical Greek music style.
And for those interested in the 'source code', here's a Frescobaldi/Lilypond
produced leadsheet pdf file.

I've listened to it several times tonight, I know very little about
greek traditional music but it was a nice tune. Puts you in a good
mood with the promise of sunshine.

Hehe, Italy grinds to a halt well before the snow
reaches 75cm...
I've been in Kiruna once, but just before the snow.
Noticed that all parking spaces have electricity
sockets for heaters to keep your car from freezing
to death while parked...

@Robert: Why tarring the file?
When it's a direct link for an audio file, sometimes I have problems
downloading it, as it opens in the browser window. Thus, I normally zip the
files for a website. Tar? I thought I'd use an Open Source compression...
@Fons: - It's a very dry recording. Some room (or big open space) ambience
improves it.
I do try to avoid reverb and try to use only a minimum necessary dosage
lately, as to be more faithful to the original Greek sound of the 30-40's...
- Don't know what you used for the backing but it doesn't sound very Greek
to me. Replace this by a guitar ?
....I actually recorded one version with acoustic guitar only, and sounded
too dry to me, so the I decided to add some 'glamour' to all that (thus,
stopped being faithful really:-).
If interested, here's the first, dry, guitar-only version (I added now a bit
of reverb, out of curiosity...).

FYI:
.tar files are totally UN-compressed.
.ogg files are already very compressed. If you try to
compress further using gzip or bzip2 (both open-source)...
you'll probably find that it doesn't make the file very much
smaller -- and possibly will make the file larger.

Thanks for sharing this. I hope your wife enjoyed it. If not, let me tell,
that I did. It's very folkloristic in its own way. So very easy to listen to
and very easy to get into my head.
I wonder: You get a good recording of your instruments. The only thing,
which I mostly do not like in your songs, is the drums. Here it's not the
case, because the drums are background or accompaniment only. But besides
that, it's well mixed and produced to my ears. Just as it should be and that
is lovely.

which I mostly do not like in your songs, is the drums. Here it's not the
case, because the drums are background or accompaniment only. But besides
that, it's well mixed and produced to my ears. Just as it should be and that
is lovely.

Thanks for this recording. Yes, the drums are very much to my liking. The
playing is nice and you don't feel the 7/8 too strongoy, which I think is a
talent. Not everyone can do it. And even the sound of the drums themselves is
OK. I know, the sound itself, should be - from a musical point of hear - be
the least concerning factor. Yet in the song anticipating the drumkit itself
is quite distracting at times, because it is so prominent and characteristic.
My ears tell me, that they don't like tofit it in with the rest of the song.
Still I think Anticipating is the song I like best from yours.

You are absolutely right, drums are not my strong point.
Truth is, lately I don't have time to work the drums in as much
detail as I would like. So yes, they are usually hidden in the
background.
"For you consolation", here's an older recording where I worked the
drums in some detail, plus is in 7/8.
