Hey hey,
does anyone still use songanalysis? It's still hosted on juliencoder.de . I
just reinstalled it on my current 64bit Archlinux and it fails to do its work,
either with a segmentation fault or no work done. If no one else uses it, I'll
remove it in the near future.
Is there any other text-based software that can do beat/tempo detection out of
the box?

The Aubio tools from Paul Brossier - aubiotrack, aubioonset, aubionotes. (From
https://aubio.org/)
And not quite out of the box, because it's entirely plugin-based, but Sonic Annotator
is designed for this, using for example the QM Vamp Plugins beat/tempo tracker plugin.
(Sonic Annotator is at http://www.vamp-plugins.org/sonic-annotator/, the QM plugins at
https://code.soundsoftware.ac.uk/projects/qm-vamp-plugins/files)
Sonic Annotator can be a bit verbose, but in brief: download the QM plugins package,
unpack and install its dynamic library file to $HOME/vamp/, and then run something like
$ sonic-annotator -d vamp:qm-vamp-plugins:qm-tempotracker:tempo -w csv --csv-stdout
filename.wav

thanks for the hints. If no one else comes forward asking for songanalysis in
particular, it will go. Meanwhile I'll try first aubio and then the vamp
solution.
