Greetings:
I'm considering entering some of my music in an international
competition. However, the organization accepts scores only in one of the
three formats indicated in the subject line. Thus, I need to find
someone who has one or more of those apps and can help recast my lovely
LilyPond scores into an acceptable format. I doubt there's a nice simple
LP-to-proprietary-format conversion utility, so is there anyone here who
can advise and/or assist me in the conversion process ?

I'm sorry that I can't help you. But, I thought I'd wonder out loud
about an international music competition that would only accept
scores in LilyPond format. Hmmm....

I am not a Sibelius/Score/Finale user either, but I am quite confident
that
LilyPond -> MIDI -> Sibelius/Score/Finale
should work without bigger problems.

Unless I misunderstood his post, it sounds to me like the problem is
simply not having Finale, Score or Sibelius (none of which run under
Linux anyway unless I'm mistaken.)

Last time I tried it Finale 2006 worked great under wine.

My apologies for not responding to the many replies, I've been
distracted by too many local events, none of which are helping me get
this work done. :(
Anyway, I've generated MIDI files from LilyPond, I guess that's my best
option for exporting to Finale or Sibelius (I'm surprised the contest
even ackowledges Score). I'm concerned about them, because they sound an
octave higher than is correct. I tried setting the \clef statement (in
LilyPond) to "G_8", it attached the ottava mark to the G clef but
doesn't actually transpose the output.
The LP scores can be seen at

Note that the MIDI files available there are *not* what I created with
LP. Before I post the LP-produced files, I need to know whether I should
transpose them or leave them as-is and let Finale/Sibelius do the

Thanks for these. I do not have the classic guitar skill for these but would
like to give them a try.
MIDI. You are a guitarist and the G-cleff staff for a guitar IS an octave
higher than that of the piano G-cleff, isn't it? So possibly the producing
program knew this and transposed the MIDI up a second time for you :-)

The bundle includes the LilyPond sources, the PDF and PostScript output,
and the MIDI files. Anyone who wants to take a swing at the conversion
to Finale/Sibelius/Score is welcome to try. Please let me know of any
attempts or any problems.
There is one remaining LP difficulty. The tempo indicator places itself
poorly, I'll figure the fix for that and repost the bundle if necessary.

I use Finale Allegro and Geniesoft Overture... will either of those
work? Not sure how we can go about converting them other than getting
a MIDI version of the your score and importing in and then touching up
the stuff as needed to match the LilyPond layout.

First, "Thank you!" to everyone who's responded so far, I appreciate the
offers and other input.
It looks like my best chance of a decent start on the conversion will be
to create MIDI files from the LP scores and post them at linux-sound.org
for anyone to retrieve. I'll get started on those files today.

You could have a look at Canorus (http://canorus.berlios.de). It is
very early in development, but I've been following its svn and I
remember to have seen something about lilypond import and musicXML
export. I just can't confirm right now because I'm not in my linux box
(at my job right now, my box is at my home). But I can look when I get
home. Of course, probably it is only a partial implementation, but
this project is very promising.

Very nice of them to insist upon closed software formats, huh?
These organizations should be encouraged to support/allow open formats such as
musicML or such, or for finished engraving, something most everyone could
produce such as PDF.
Finale's least expensive version won't set one back too much and might even
work in Wine. Sibelius is lovely but big bucks. There are opensource upstarts
with WYSIWYG GUI (which lilipond lacks) such as Musescore that are looking
quite nice.
