I didn't say anything at first because I thought you wouldn't really
quit this list. But just in case it's true, I just want to say that it
will be a real loss to our community. And I mean "community" because we
all really contribute to something great here.
All in all, I'm very surprized how cordial and well meaning everyone
here is. There's a real sense that we respect each other's ideas and
contibutions. I just hope you and others don't decide to leave.
Think about it... there's people with full blown apps here that (instead
of) investing in their own app and being competetive, they actually
contribute to projects that are of the _same_ nature. Were will you find
that? That's not ego... that's people that really want to build on
complete audio solutions.
You've built your respect and appreciation by your many contibutions.
And now you have the clout that allows you to ask a question and people
will flood you with the best answers. And so they should, because
everyone knows that when they answer one of your questions, you will
find a way to share it with others. Don't throw that investment away.
Anyways, I feel there's many good reasons to be here. It's not only a
place to build on complete audio solutions, but it's also just a great
community of people.
Tim felt a need to appoligize. But he's active and contibutes. So
everything balances out... doesn't it?

dave, please, as a friend i ask you that if you're still there reconsider

quitting the list because of the recent thread. i haven't participated in
the discussion, even after reading opinions and statements that i resent
(and others that i find naive and others that i find plain stupid), because
i know that nothing good can possibly come out from such arguments, even on
a list where you could have assumed that there were certain agreements about
the philosophical and social implications of free software. well, you see it
is not so. i don't think the solution is quitting the list, you'll miss us
anyway, and we'll miss you for sure... :-) you'll have to face situations
like this everywhere (just think about your neighbours), so please stay and

Well, if you're looking for a music technology oriented list specifically for
off-topic stuff (including politics to a certain degree, although not too
much) Ampfea.org has "The Music Bar":

It's quite high traffic, almost anything goes - it's "a bar", and like
any
real bar, it can get a bit rowdy at times! It's certainly the most unique
list I've ever been on, and I'd feel slightly lost without it.
There's some really great people over there, many of whom I've met and jammed
with (some individually, some at small international gatherings of ten or so
people) and now consider to be good personal friends.
I'm not saying "take the flamewar over there" because it wouldn't be
appreciated, but thought I'd drop a shameless plug for what has been an
infinitely valuable list to be on, and a place that would accommodate this
kind of discussion from time to time.
It's also a nice little community for sharing your music with and getting lots
of feedback to improve your work - there's some very knowledgable people on
that list, and newcomers are always welcomed.
It doesn't suit everyone, but I like it there.

My opinion? ...Off topic stuff makes mailing lists entertaining enough to
read... So long as there's not a lot of it and so long as it stays
constrained to single thread. :} It's sort of essential to a *healthy*
community dynamic and helps to give things a sense of context. Restrictions
on it can be just as damaging as censorship is anywhere else.
Apparently it helps you understand just who you're talking to as well.

You could try backing up at least a single one of your facts next time.
For example, google for "Sweden university research" and you might
realise how blatantly false your clever little loaded questions are.
Then, you don't look like an idiot, and the rest of us don't have to
listen to such nonsense. It's a win-win!
Also notice one of the results on the first page of the above mentioned
googling is a breakthrough in cancer research. Looks an awful lot like
they have doctors there.. and heck, they're even working!

I agree. There are many great things about Sweden, however I also found
Sweden suicide rates highest
to have some scary pages.
None of this matters much to me. The women, skiing, pancakes and
crayfish more than make up for it.
