Hi, list!
I tested Loomer Sequent demo, and it looked quite a nice piece of
software. Is there any Sequent users on the list to answer my
questions?
I want to use it on live situation and of course want it to syncronize
with current tempo when needed. How this can be done? Does it support
Jack Transport? (I think it doesn't but maybe I'm wrong?) I succeeded
to sync it with JOST's global tempo, so at least it can take the host
tempo. I tried also with Qtractor, but didn't work. Does Qtractor send
the tempo information to Linux VST plugins? I have version 0.5.1
installed.
I'd like to sync Sequent with Jack Transport or alternatively midi
clock received from another laptop running Ableton, so I guess I would
need a plugin host that could receive tempo either from midi or from
Jack Transport and emit it to the Sequent. Does Ardour support sending
tempo information to Linux VST plugins? I know Ardour has a quite
stable Jack Transport support, and I have used it as a live mixer
sometimes.

Hello Heikki,
Afaik the Loomer plug-ins like Sequent and Cumulus have very basic JACK
transport support. It is on the the to-do list though of the dev. And I
recall when playing around with Cumulus and Qtractor that it was
actually working at some point. I inserted Cumulus (which resembles
Sequent a bit) as a MIDI plug-in and then it responded to JACK transport
messages in Qtractor 0.5.0. I recently tested again with 0.5.3 and then
it didn't work anymore. Also, Cumulus locks up my PC so I lost interest
for the moment (not specifically Cumulus related).

I'm pretty sure Ardour does support this -- I haven't tried it with
Sequent, but it seemed to work fine for me with the TAL-Dub-III plugin,
which is a tempo-synced delay. Native VST support works out-of-the-box
with Ardour 3 now, so definitely grab the latest beta and give it a go.

Plugins don't have any direct access to JACK Transport. Its up to the
host to relay transport/sync info to the plugin using whatever
mechanism the plugin API (VST, LV2, AudioUnits etc) provides.
Ardour does this. I can't comment on any other hosts.

to date lv2 has no specicific extension for just that and none of the
currently developed or ported plugins so far has that interest or
capability.
although, re. ported vst-to-lv2 plugins subject, falktx has been the
head that fostered the linux-vst transport thing on the first place.
among other (a lot) more interesting things ;)

mechanism the plugin API (VST, LV2, AudioUnits etc) provides.

Hi all, and thanks for responses!
I bought a copy of Sequent and must admit it's a really cool piece of
software! I haven't got it working standalone yet, but maybe I'll give
it another try sometime soon...
Ardour 3 hosted Sequent very well, and transmitted the tempo as I
wanted! The problem is: I want to manipulate tempo via Jack Transport
so that I can get arpeggiator, delay and sequent to the same tempo and
be able to change that with tap tempo on midi keyboard. I tried to
change settings so that Ardour could take tempo from Jack Transport,
but no success. Playing, stopping and rewinding worked. I'm not sure
though, if I want to use beta software anyway (altough A3 beta seemed
quite stable).
I got it working by hosting Sequent in Renoise demo and setting
Hydrogen as transport master. two problems: 1) Renoise is only a demo
version, and I would like to work with open source software. I have no
interest buying Renoise only to use it as plugin host for one
plugin... 2) Hydrogen crashed after five minutes of testing. I've had
same kind of experiences with Hydrogen earlier, so I'd need an another
application, that could act as transport master and could receive tap
tempo commands (via midi, OSC or some other method). Tried Klick, but
it seems that it doesn't work for my needs. It would either need a
pre-defined tempo map or static tempo. Changing tempo by tapping is
possible, but then it doesn't work with Jack Transport. Sigh.
Any suggestions of Linux VSTi -capable plugin hosts, that could
transmit tempo from Jack Transport to the plugin? Or any clues how to
get A3 working with tempo from Jack Transport?

A3 (and A2) do not do this. The program considers itself a
"tempo/meter master" and will not read the information provided by
other clients. It would be good if there was a feature request filed
for it.
