Hello, everyone :)
I have been teaching myself to do all my work with extracting from and
recording to CD's from the command line, using Red Hat Linux 8. I have
been having excellent success, but there's one thing I haven't been able
to figure out. Before posting this, I studied the man pages for
cdrecord, cdparanoia, cdda2wav and lame, and I couldn't find what I was
looking for, so here goes: is there any way that I can have the song
titles that I download from CDDB be automatically made into the
filenames of the tracks that I extract or encode? Example: I just ran
cdda2wav -vall cddb=0 -D0,1,0 -B -Owav from the command line, and I got
the following output (suitably clipped):
Album title: 'Mansion Builder' [from 2nd Chapter Of Acts]
Track 1: 'Rod And Staff'
Track 2: 'Mansion Builder'
Track 3: 'Ps. 93'
Track 4: 'Gold In The Clouds'
Track 5: 'I'll Give My Life Away'
Track 6: 'Rainbow'
Track 7: 'Well, Haven't You Heard'
Track 8: 'Lightning Flash'
Track 9: 'Starlight, Starbright'
Track 10: 'Make My Life A Prayer To You'
Track 11: 'Daydreamer'
Later in the output, I got messages like these:
track 1 'Rod And Staff' successfully recorded
track 2 'Mansion Builder' successfully recorded
track 3 'Ps. 93' successfully recorded
Here are the file names relating to the above samples:
audio_01.inf
audio_01.wav
audio_02.inf
audio_02.wav
audio_03.inf
audio_03.wav
Is there any way that, instead of the filenames being like those above,
that I can just have them come out this way, so that I can save having
to manually rename them if I want to make an mp3 cd (our DVD player
displays the folder names and track titles on our TV :)):
Mansion Builder - 2nd Chapter Of Acts.wav
Ps. 93 - 2nd Chapter Of Acts.wav
Rod And Staff - 2nd Chapter Of Acts.wav
I just tried k3b, and it created a 2nd Chapter Of Acts/Mansion Builder
folder, and it put the following automatically in it:
Mansion Builder.wav
Ps. 93.wav
Rod And Staff.wav
If anyone can enlighten me on how to do that from the command line, I
would be very appreciative :). I don't care if I have to use a
different command than I've been using, as I'm willing to learn :)

I think grip can help you:
in the config window there is:
extraction prog: /usr/bin/cdda2wav
command line option: -D %C -x -H -t %t -O wav %w
file format: /BURN/%A/%d/%t_%n.wav (with a /BURN directory on your disk)
It works for me.

Thank you very much for your response :) As I said in my original
message, I am willing to learn: the interpretation of that statement in
this context is that I need a little more help, as I don't completely
understand some things about the command you sent.
Just for example, assuming an eleven track cd, what would the exact
syntax of the cdda2wav command be that I would need to accomplish what I
want? Quite frankly, I can tell from comparing what you sent to the
cdda2wav man page, that this should work, but I haven't been able to
figure out the exact syntax. For example, I think I understand the
command line option part, and I understand that %t is to be replaced
with the track range, but after trying to do one track (-t 1), all
eleven (1-11) and (1-) with the hope of ripping all eleven tracks, using
just the command line option part, I get the following in /BURN:
audio.wav Obviously from my last statement, my current problem seems to
be my unlearnedness relating to how I should implement the "file
format:" part.
Any help you can give me in getting me the exact syntax I need is
greatly appreciated :)

I would like to help you with some shell scripts you should need to do that.
I would like you to send me some of the output files created by the
processes. I would like to know the contents of those inf files.
Or give me exact sequence of commands to recreate it here.
I think I can get somehow the CD name, and the name of each track and
get a complete name such as: cd_name-track_name so you can use it as a
name for each of the final mp3 files.

What he posted are options that you can set inside that program... just in case the
presets don't cover your needs.
If you depend on a command line solution, I think there are quite a bunch of scripts
listed at freshmeat.net that might help you out. I have not bothered to check whether you
can do this stuff directly with cdda2wav or cdparanoia...

My fault. I was quietly assuming that it worked "outside" of grip _too_ . Sorry,
Steven, obviously it doesn't work as a command line tool if this is what you needed.
