After 10 years with my ASUS M2N-E motherboard
and my AMD Athlon 64 Dual Core 2.5 Ghz, I feel the
need to upgrade.
In the past, I have preferred AMD processors as they
are just less expensive than Intel, and my preference
existed before the meltdown/spectre flaws of recent
news.
I would like to continue to use my M-Audio 2496
PCI card, hence the need for a PCI slot.

thread on this list.

The two motherboards I am considering both have the
AM4 socket, that is, they accommodate the AMD RYZEN
processor. Those motherboards:
(1) ASUS PRIME B350-PLUS MB

It does have integrated graphics processor, though. Does anyone
have an opinion about the onboard AMD Radeon R Series Graphics ?
(2) Gigabyte GA-A320-DS3

This one also has integrated graphics, which is called
"2-Way CrossFire™ Multi-Graphics Support"
I suppose if the onboard graphics do not work out I
could go with a PCI-express graphics card.
And then, for a processor, I was thinking of going with
the AMD RYZEN 3 1200 4-Core 3.1 GHz.
Yes, it is is not as fast and has fewer cores
than RYZEN 7, but it is only $110 US. For $220 US,
I could go with a RYZEN 5 six core though.
Has anybody any opinions on this hardware?

Sounds good to me.
I used to have an AudioPhile 24/96 and do miss it!
I have an ASUS motherboard here, with an Intel processor on it, and
think it has the best BIOS of the 4 different computers I have here. MY
wife's laptop is an ASUS, also with a very fine BIOS.
Have had Radeon graphics before, preferred it to NVidia. But I'm no
gamer, so as long as it can display, I'm ok.

Well, I make large panoramas on my systems, too, so I'd go for a Ryzen
7. Hey, I'd even go for a Threadripper or top-end Intel chip. But I'm
weird. I think they'd be overkill for audio work.

Be aware, these boards do NOT have integrated GPUs. They have the headers
and ports, but the provision of actual graphics depends on you buying an
AMD APU which contains integrated CPU/GPU. This is the same for all current
gen AMD based mainboards. The current Ryzen chips are NOT APUs, they are
CPUs only. In other words, if you buy these mainboards and a Ryzen 3, 5, or
7 CPU you will still need to buy a separate GPU. To make use of integrated
graphics on the mainboards you have selected, you would need to buy a
slower current gen AMD APU which are NOT based on the Zen architecture.

Ok, concerning the ASUS PRIME B350-PLUS MB, the
web page does say concerning the graphics:
Integrated AMD Radeon R Series Graphics
in the 7th Generation A-Series APU
however, concerning the CPU, same web page reads:
AMD AM4 Socket for AMD Ryzen/7th Generation
A-series/Athlon Processors
So are they saying that if you do put a Ryzen CPU
on this board (and not an APU), you just need
to put a third party graphics card in one of the
PCIe slots ?

Unless you are seriously trying to save pennies, I personally don't think
there is much of a comparison. The A10 is a previous generation chip from
an architecture that is not well-regarded for its performance or
efficiency. Conversely, the Zen architecture has been somewhat of a home
run for AMD.
If you really want integrated graphics, AMD is slated to release new APUs
based on the Zen architecture in the first quarter of this year. Otherwise,
as David said, Ryzen either way would be my suggestion.

I've been happy with my Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 mobo and my AMD FX-8350 CPU,
which has an MAudio Delta 1010 card in it.
One thing to note is that the "2-Way CrossFire™ Multi-Graphics Support"
is not integrated graphics, but support for 2 GPUs. You'll still need
at least one graphics card
