I just wanted to mention that the software sound module / tone generator
PianoTeq--
https://pianoteq.com/
--works very well with Linux. I'm sure others in the LAU list are
already familiar with PianoTeq, but this is the first time I have used a
software tone generator to produce piano sounds in response to playing
my MIDI keyboard (a Yamaha CP5 digital piano), and I have been very
impressed with the results.
PianoTeq can use either ALSA or JACK (much lower latency using JACK in
my experience) and unlike some of the massive "ROMpler" (sampled)
software sound libraries that have been available for years, uses
complex and highly-configurable algorithms to model the sounds of pianos
(including some famous Steinway, Boesendorfer, and other current and
historical pianos), electric pianos, mallet instruments such as vibes
and steel drums, etc.
I ran the MIDI file of one of my pieces (Abstract 1) through PianoTeq
and produced a short YouTube video to demonstrate one of the presets for
PianoTeq's model of a Hamburg Steinway model D piano, here--

I'm already planning to upgrade my copy of the economically-priced
PianoTeq Stage to their Standard or Pro edition. An LV2 plugin version
of PianoTeq is bundled with the software, although I haven't tried it
yet. I was just surprised and very pleased that the software, available
for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux works so well in Linux (it does not
require WINE or any special configuration to work). It is distributed as
a very well (and beautifully) designed, highly-configurable and
feature-rich executable application that runs very well (so far, in my
experience) natively within Linux.

Are you sure it's an lv2?? I bought PianoTeq play some years ago and
along with it came a linuxvst.
I set it up on a headless rig with an 88 graded hammer midi keyboard and
a pair of esi monitors. When I turn on the computer, the speakers go on
and pianoteq autostarts (with alsa).
I enjoy it everyday!!!

Yes, the version 5.x distribution archive contains LV2 and VST plugins
and standalone versions for i386 and amd64 architectures.
The LV2 version loads without problem in Carla, including GUI. With
jalv.{gtk,gtk3,qt} I only get a generic GUI.
The standalone version is a proper JACK client with JACK MIDI inputs
(you can also select an ALSA audio/MIDI driver).

Turns out I didn't. I had up-to-date serd, sord, sratom, suil, and lilv,
since I maintain the *-git AUR packages for those, but I only had jalv
1.4.6 from the normal repos.
I just created a jalv-git AUR package and after compiling and installing
this I can now run 'jalv.gtk http://pianoteq.com/lv2/Pianoteq5STAGE' and
the GUI shows.

will be released as soon David pushed out a new jalv release.
The svn5717 branch currently only works with jalv-git

Christopher Arndt already answerd the question (yes, PianoTeq 5 comes
with a standalone desktop app plus both VST and LV2 plugins), here is a
little relevant info from the PianoTeq 5 readme--
--------------- Pianoteq as a VST plugin -----------------
Pianoteq also comes as a native linux VST -- this is the "Pianoteq 4.so"
file. You can then load it in linux hosts that handle native VSTs,
such as Renoise, energyXT, or Ardour3.
--------------- Pianoteq as an LV2 plugin -----------------
The folder "Pianoteq 4.lv2" may be copied into your ~/.lv2/ folder if
you want to use Pianoteq as an lv2 instrument. Your host should
support the "LV2 State extension" if you want it to be able to save
and restore the pianoteq state in your projects. It should also
support the "X11 UI extension", or "External UI extension" if you
want
to show the Pianoteq GUI.

Just as a personal note, PianoTeq is the best digital piano I've ever
played (of both sampled and modeled pianos in both hardware (keyboards
and rack-mounted tone generators) and software) and sounds better than
almost all acoustic pianos I've played. And to find that it works so
well in Linux was a very pleasant surprise. :-)

And version 5 still works (with reduced polyphony) on my old 2006 Mac
mini with a 32-bit Core Duo processor and OS X 10.6, and so puts it to
good use, even though it's long past Apple's so-called "end-of-life".
(I could also put Linux on it, but I still sometimes need OS X to backup
my ipad.)

It would be nice to contact modart and invite them to a future LAC. Not
to convince them to opensource pianoteq (although that would be cool of
course) but hear why they chose to support linux.
AFAIC they initially developed the algorithm on linux with the juice
lib, but I may be wrong.

My thoughts exactly. I would like to see some effort to involve authors
of commercial plugins and frameworks, who develop for Linux, with the
LAC. There are quite a few firms that come to mind: u-he, discodsp,
Tracktion, Bitwig, OverTone, Loomer, XT Software, Renoise, (TAL?) ...

Speaking if JUCE, its creator Julian Storer, who works for Roli now,
does a lot of talks and there was a JUCE meetup at Ableton last year,
