Please define what you mean with *under a record label*. Do you mean only the
big players like Sony? Or are you aware that there is a very big scene of
"independent" labels? And you probably are aware that the bars to create an
own label are pretty low which results in many bands (big bands too) just
creating their own label to publish their music and that music of friends...

PS: For the really big labels I wouldn't be surprised if the answer to your
linux-question is none. But I wouldn't be surprised to hear otherwise too.

Hi Carlo,
although only a tiny lable, but our CD "Sound out my voice" (see thread
"New Early Music made with Linux") has been completely created using
Linux and FLOSS, and is published by the label "Lunaris CD" (LC 18240).
But you are probably looking for well known labels...

why do you imagine that anyone on this list would know an answer to
this question? here are some similar questions:

if you're asking "have ANY albums on a major label been recorded
and/or mixed using Linux on a general purpose computer?" (*) then
thats a different question. i suspect that the answer is zero, but
maybe someone else has a different answer.
(*) the general purpose computer part matters, since at least 3 mixing
console companies now run Linux in their consoles. Would using their
consoles mean that they used Linux?

Not a mixing console but portable audio workstation - Yamaha AW2400.
Some years ago I was fiddling with it. This model as well as AW1600
runs Linux inside. You can see it clearly on the screen while loading.

Does it matter? It's easy enough to become your own label and produce
CDs that are commercially viable.

I played on a recording done live to ADAT. I did the analog mix and
captured into SoundStudio (a SoX) front-end written in Tk. The
mastering was done by SoX utilizing makefiles. The master sent to
the plant was written by X-CD-Roast. All this was back in 2001, and
was my first release done where all computer tools were hosted on
Linux. I have a very small label, with contributions to songs or
tracks making it onto about a dozen CDs. My present setup relies on
Ardour and Audacity.
