hi all
slightly ot... but relevant as i'm finding a lot of the newer releases
need glibc2.3....
im running mandrake 9.0... which comes with glibc 2.2.5
i know i've killed several installs trying to upgrade glibc by hand... i
really dont want to kill off this one just as i've got cvs alsa working...
does anyone know the list of applications that depend on glibc, so i can
get upgrades for them all?
my modem isnt working at the moment under GNU/Linux so i need to grab
them while i'm in the Evil OS.... and i cant use urpmi :(.....

Everything written in 'C' depends on glibc, so that pretty much means
your whole operating system :=) . glibc is the standard C library. Are
you sure all these apps actually 'need' glibc 2.3, or are the binary
versions that are are trying to install just compiled against 2.3? If
the later is the case, then you need to compile them yourself.

that pretty much means
your whole operating system :=) . glibc is the standard C library.
uhh yeah... i know someone who did the equivalent of erasing glibc on a
proprietary unix machine... whoops!

overzealous with rm -rf ?....

c libs with --force... thats why im a little once-bitten twice-shy....!
guess the only option unless i get off my bum and get my LAN working is
to try and upgrade glibc and see what it barfs up the screen... hmm....

well i must say its kind of a relief to know that even seasoned users do

Hi,
Since I'm running mandrake 9.0 and have a faint memory of upgrading glibc, I
checked.
I seem to have glibc 2.3.1 installed (from rpm - cooker) on this machine.
I also seem to remember that the upgrade was totally seamless...
:-) I seem to think that maybe....on a good day... it's okay to try it...
Do I seem vague? :-o
