I have a website I got with my net connection but it's
fairly slow and bandwidth limited. I'd like to find a
site to host my music for free or very inexpensively
that would make it easier to share the garbage I work
on!
Any recommendations?

if you're ok with issuing the songs under a Creative Commons license,
then you can upload them here for nothing:

as an added bonus, someone might remix/remaster/destroy your song ... ha
ha ... i'm in the middle of remixing together two of the first uploads
there ;)
the main idea of the site is to let others remix source samples of your
work, but uploading fully mixed tracks is fine, too!

Commons license,
then you can upload them here for nothing:

I realized that it needs gain improvement too. Must
have messed with Ardour's master a bit more than I
thought I did. Thanks for the other tips as well!
Yes, I would be happy to upload the individual tracks
(and MORE!) once I figure out the easiest way to coax
them out of Ardour... I sort of thought maybe it
would keep each track as a seperate wave but that is
apparantly not the case. Any tips?

if you look in your song's project folder, and then inside the /sounds
sub-folder, you should find your individual tracks ... but best way to
do it is to go to ardour's "Session" drop-down menu, select
"Export" and
then "Export session to file". In the resulting dialogue, you can choose
to export individual tracks, rather than the whole mix at once.
one thing, though (and i'll probly have to add something regarding this
to the site) - once they're exported from ardour, best thing is to
convert them to flac. also - if you have, say, a basstrack that is
basically just one loop over and over - then just upload the loop - not
the whole track .... there is a 30mb upload limit for each file at the
moment (probly forever), so you have to make sure your zipped up samples
will fall beneath that.

Ok, I remastered with more master gain, stuffed the
drum track through LADSPA Dyson Compressor and Stereo
Reverb, and did an adaptive normalization with
ReZound. Should at least be a bit louder ;)
Now I just need to figure out how to replace the
original track.

you should be able to go to the songs page (
http://remix.machinehasnoagenda.com/media/files/October/7 ) and see a
"Delete" link ... if you can't see that, let me know and i'll delete it
for you.

I use hosting direct. They aren't free, but the cost is fairly low.
I've also only had one problem in the years that they've been my host,
and it was sorted very quickly.
They might not be the best - I can't say because I've only ever used
them - but worth looking at.
