Does anybody here know of existing code or ready apps (linux pref.) to
retreive and store data from/into the iXML-chunk of bwf-files?

libsndfile doesn't do it yet, but is close, much of the infrastructure
is already in place.
Maybe you could join the libsndfile-devel mailing list a help out:
