Hello,
Could anyone tell me whether there are plans to extend the OSS support
in Jack2 from Solaris to Linux? I've just switched to OSS4 because ALSA
doesn't support my laptop's on-board sound properly. However I now no
longer have Jack.
If it won't be possible in the near future to use OSS with Jack, might
it be possible to continue using OSS on the internal audio device and
ALSA on my USB audio interface? I'm guessing that it isn't, but you
don't know till you ask.

OSS has been supported on Linux for years. I doubt it get used very
much, so there could be bugs. Did you try it (-d oss)? What
happened?
Maybe your version of JACK was built without it. It should build
automatically if the OSS interface header is available.

If that's your only reason, why not get the ALSA support fixed for your
laptop's on-board device? The is particularly doable given that you
know that OSS4 correctly supports the device, and that both ALSA and
OSS4 have compatible open source licenses.
