hi *!
i'm looking for some wireless controller box with the following features:
* sends and receives generic midi data
* has at least one fader, preferrably motorized
* has some freely definable knobs with sane midi output (no NRPN weirdness)
* works with ALSA ootb (if it's a USB device), or:
* has midi in and out ports on the base station
something like the frontier design tranzport, but without the driver
pain and with a fader tacked on.

Hello Jörn,
Would two separate devices work out too? Like a M-Audio MidAir with a
Behringer BCF2000? The MidAir should work ootb afaict.

if cables can't be avoided, maybe i can find some schematics for a
simple motorfader midi controller and use a simple cat5 for
bi-directional midi and power... suggestions, anyone?

Sure they're not physical sliders and certainly not motorized, but

You will need to download the source code from the SVN repository at SourceForge, because
Rui did not release it yet. There is not a symbian binary package published, either.
I've sent an unsigned installer to Rui, just in case he wants to publish the
application in the Nokia OVI Store himself. I don't mind to publish it under my own

QmidiCtl may be useful for your needs. My problem with it is the small size of the
phones' screens, that makes it hard to use the sliders. A possible solution for this
problem may be to replace the phone device by a Meego tablet like the wetab or exopc.
QmidiCtl runs on these devices like on any other Linux box.

In other words; if I buy an WeTab today and WeTab GmbH goes out of
business tomorrow, what will my WeTab experience be in say three years,
regarding availability of software?
The specs look quite a bit lower than the iPad (that I won't buy for
sure, because if its hostility towards linux), but maybe that's to be
expected...

I've successfully used Fingerplay and TouchDAW myself, both Android
apps. TouchDAW works great with QmidiNet, Fingerplay works with it's own
Java server thingy.

Hello Jörn,
Didn't think about the mains cable :( I think it will get very hard to
find a single wireless midi device with at least one fader that runs on
batteries. You will most likely end up with two separate devices, a
battery powered MIDI controller and a battery powered MIDI wireless
device, and will have to do some integrating yourself. And does it
really have to be a fader box? So knobs won't work?
