Hi Guys,
recently I decided to update the PC in my guitar setup. The Rack
consists of a Line6 POD HD desktop, PC, M-Audio Mobile Pre,
Korg NanoFader and Behringer BCR2000. All in one dj case, fixed, wired
and ready to go..... That means if you have the muscles to lag
around those 25-30 Kgs. So something has to be removed!!
I decided to check out the mod software+Guitarix lv2s and ended up using
carla instead of mod-ui, since I need midi cc.
I did a one on nearly one comparison with Guitarix and the Line6 POD HD.
The POD is great, I had done a comparison with it and Guitar Rig from
NI, and it prevailed. But Guitarix ? On my PA ? Man, that beats the POD
HD in every imaginable way. You guys nailed it!
Ever since I once had a Marshall JCM800, Hughes&Kettner Attax100 and
access to a Fender Bassman I had wanted those sounds desperately again,
but without the actual cabs. The POD got the Bassman somewhat right. But
Guitarix sounds MUCH better. I also tested GxAmplifier-X with a 6DJ8 on
the pre, a 6V6 Master tube, Fender tone stack and a 4x12 Cab. Not
precisly a Bassman. The sound is somewhere between the Bassman and a
Mesa Boogie we have in the rehearsal room. Fantastic!!
And the GxJCM800-pre+GxCabinet lv2s sound exactly like the original. The
POD never managed to sound like that, when I tuned in its jcm800 ampsim.

The Line6 is good, but it's time to say bye to it, and welcome the MOD
Duo. Hehe from POD to MOD. And I'll make a donation to the Guitarix Team
once the POD is sold and the MOD ordered.
Why did it take me so long to realize the quality of Guitarix? I guess
it has to do with the GUIs. Now the GUIs really explain well which the
most important parameters are. Yes, Eye-Candy counts! (dont take this as
trolling)
Since I have the suspicion that the MOD Team has had a big influence on
this (am I right?), a big emphatic Thank you to
them too (to falktx anyway for his patience with my dumb questions on
irc). Did I say I'm ordering the Mod duo primarily for its support of
Guitarix? No? Well: I'm ordering the Mod duo primarily for its support
of Guitarix!!!
If yes I'll say it again: I'm ... ok I'll spare you that.

Thanks for your kind words, I'm glad to hear that our work on the amp
simulation is useful.
In fact, it was Gian (MOD) who forces me to port the guitarix amps/fx to
the LV2 format, when he once comes with the vision of the MOD LV2
hardware host to me.

Hehe, I thought so, and he's damn right. Btw the line6 POD HD is ripped
out of my setup and right now at home with me to be sold on Ebay.
I was thinking of taking photos of me sending it off, and me receiving
the mod duo sometime and opening it, hehe. And post the photos of the
POD->MOD transformation
on our website.
Guitarix in such a small package make me drool!

You could save your midi connections within a preset, or for general
use. You could connect more then one guitarix controller to the same
midi controller, and you could select the range and direction of the
control (blend one effect in while blend a other one out with the same
controller)
guitarix support as well bank and program change messages, Midi Beat
Clock (bpm) and Jack transport.
You could use the live play mode to avoid the GUI but get a good visible
feedback about the engine and controller states.

Hi Hermann, I assume you're talking about gx_head standalone program?
I'd rather use the lv2's in some host (like carla) since I want to
combine guitarix with other plugins.
But on the other side your suggestions sound quite compelling.. I'll
probably go with gx_head for the guitar related stuff and carla for the
synth stuff.
Btw, I'm looking for an amp (with guitarix of course) which sounds like
the fender jazz amps of the 40's (warm mellow sound, no distortion). I'm
playing an Epiphone Les Paul, so that
should deliver the correct raw data. Can you give me some tips? Are you
on IRC?

Nope, I'm rarely using IRC.
You may try one of the "GxRedeye" plugs with low Gain (avoid
distortion) setting and higher Volume.
Truly, for those you need to use carla or the MOD.
