I just checked a new (~X86 masked) ebuild into gentoo cvs for the
0.50.0 release. The old (0.34.0) ebuild is still there and will
probably stay until i work out if anything is using it.
If you know of any packages that rely on the 0.34.0 version please let
me know.

Have you gotten a sense of whether anything is
depending on (0.44.0) and consequently when you'd
upgrade the dependencies for jack clients (ardour,
qjackconnect, etc) from 0-44 to 0.50?
Should I unmerge 0.50 and emerge 0.44? I'm anxious to
move forward with building and tweeking my new gentoo
box.

to the cvs ebuild and needs to be updated. My advice would be to work
with the qjackdeveloper by submitting back traces for crashes against
the latest release (0.50.0).

1. I was poking around in
/usr/portage/media-sound/ardour-cvs. Can I change
DEPEND=" <snip> media-sound/jack-cvs <snip>" To
"DEPEND=" <snip> media-sound/jack-audio-connection-kit
<snip>" ?
If that's basically all it takes to get ardour-cvs to
build, I'll do it. Maybe I'll try before you reply and
if it blows up, not a biggie...this is my first stab
at gentoo and I'm enjoying the learning process.
I tend to update ardour very soon after CVS updates
appear. My objective isn't to strive for a stable work
environment. I'm more interested in testing and bug
reporting.
If I figure out how to modify my local .ebuild files,
I could provide you with feedback that could help keep
your ebuilds more current. Would this be helpful?

I'm afraid that the ebuild is seriously out of date. I'm planning on
spending time at the weekend getting things up to date.
If you do expend the effort on updating the ebuild please either send

There is now virtual/jack, the idea being that you can emerge either
jack-audio-connection-kit or jack-cvs and the dependency will be
satisfied.
