Yep, but
the fine thing with kdm and gdm, and with my favourite
wdm as well, is that they also can login the user with a plain
~/.Xsession login. So an Xsession file with:
#! /bin/sh
exec blackbox &
exec ardour
will let the user login and play with ardour, until that is closed (or
crashes...) after which the user is logged out again.
