Hi lists,
I've been using Ubuntu Studio for a while now, lately with the KX repos added.
Then I had to take my regular computer to service and since anyway I must fool
around with a backup device I decided to give KXstudio a spin (also because
I'm curious about KDE).
Apart from obvious theme and software differences, it seems that KX ships
without a default (automatic) software updater / manager. Is that a feature or
a glitch? Any reason not to install Muon?
The KX website [1] is somewhat outdated. Is the project still active?
And would it be an idea to do some kind of merge between Ubuntu Studio and KX?
I really like Ubuntu Studio, but I also like working on an up to date
Ardour...

Ubuntu Studio is an official Ubuntu flavour. What do you mean with
"kind of"?
How should license issues for linuxsampler be handled?

Imagine a LTS used by a company. How often should the company train
employees to use new software? And who from the Ubuntu Studio team
should ensure that an Ardour update doesn't break something? A few days
ago Set became the new lead of Ubuntu Studio, without a vote, because
there was no one else to vote. However, Set is a good choice and I'm
sure he will welcome you to join the team.

Hi!
I don't think a merge is going to happen sometimes soon, then again the
future has mysterious ways... :) I'm not familiar with the previous
debates but I understand KX-studio includes packages that Ubuntu Studio
will not distribute due to the packages licenses, like Ralf explained...
However, I've looked at KX-studio many times and i think they do a
fantastic job! I do prefer XFCE over KDE, but in my case I admit it is a
matter of taste...
However; yes Ubuntu Studio needs contributors. And you are indeed
very welcome to join the team! [1] Be it with code, ideas, suggestions,
support, testing, documentation, PR... Participating is the best way to
make things happen. :) There is an ongoing (but slightly latent)
discussion about making Ubuntu Studio desktop-agnostic. Perhaps this is
something you would be interested in contributing to?
