... so I'm playing about here instead.
Actually I've been digging through my past work, and there is a piece
I don't think I've put up here. If I'm wrong, apologies - put it down
to a 'senior' moment.
It is very unusual for me to cover other compositions, as I always seem
to be making comparisons with the original and end up dissatified.
However this one is such a well covered classic I'm not even sure what
the original sounds like.
So, here is my arrangement of 'Summertime' I do hope you like it.
I produced this entirely with ZynAddSubFX, Rosegarden and a dumb MIDI
keyboard.

Unless this is a new version, I believe this is one of the tracks from
the LAM-2008 mix....
Great track none the less and well worth the listen.

Hello Will!
It sounds nice. Very paddy. I like the flanger effect on the synth-strings,
it multiplies the atmosphere by a good deal. :-) As always nice sounds. But
the bass sounds a bit uninspired or a bit off, as if somehow it didn't get
notified of the rhythm. :-)
Never mind though, it's indeed a variation of summer time I hadn't heard
before.

Just listening now. It's definitely not the same version from last year.
Very atmostpheric and quite a beautiful rendition.
I couldn't hear the bass on my notebook speakers. Didn't want for
anything because of that though.

The bass gave me a lot of trouble. I wanted to maintain a 'looseness'
that matches the rest, but maybe I went too far.

I confess that, when inspiration is low, I'm inclined to go over old
compositions and rejuvinate them. I also tend to forget where I've
posted them. Maybe I should keep notes, but then I'd probably forget
where the notes were :)

I very rarely use the presets in Zyn these days. The Bass, and
'Mallets' are derivatives but all the rest in this arrangement are my
own. That sweeping synth took me weeks to get the way I want it! As for
singing, there is a composition of my own that I am detirmed to sing.
I've made a number of attempts so far, but none are anywhere near good
enough to publicise.

some great sounds & mixes from ZynAdSubFX: Are you tweaking them or are
you using untouched presets ?
Also, I'd love to hear you sing this song. Would definitely put a

I just listened to it while the rain knocked on my window, and it fits
perfectly :)
Autumn slowly crept in over the past week, and as of today summer
really is over. Well, what I tried to say is that your interpretation
of summertime really fits.
