Here it is again, the never ending question. Neuros is no longer making
anything that I would want to buy (I don't want one of the last of the
line 80GB players for various reasons). What players out there are
Linux/Ogg compatible. I'd like something about 20GB with USB that
appears as a removable disk. If it's supported by Rockbox that would be
a plus. Anybody got anything that is still commercially available that
does this (I can't find a new iRiver H120 anywhere - I don't want to buy
used). TIA.

Hi,
Once upon a Thu, Nov 23 2006, Jan Depner hit keys in the following order:

same problem here... i think i'm gonna buy an iRiver H10 and hope the recording
functions will be available in the near future. Rockbox does work on the H10,
but lacks support for recording atm. And that's the main reason i want such a
device. Anyways, since there are no other new iRivers from the H-series
in the stores anymore, its my only choice for now. Heck, maybe i'll help to
create the recording feature..
if you find something else please let me know...

I have a Cowon A2, which is the vidoe-capable device that is similar
to the X5. I really like it a lot! It's been super-stable, works via
USB and has 30GiB of storage. The iAudios come in bigger models, but
don't have the video I/O capabilities.
On top of that, the whole suite of software for the A2 is GPL. I
don't know if that's the case with the iAudio, but it does say
something pretty cool about Cowon.

I have a year or two old cowon / iaudio player. It's a 20gb with a
remote display / control I'm not thrilled with. It plays FLAC / ogg and
more, shows up as a USB drive, both of which I am thrilled with.

i think the X5 is the new version of that player, without the remote,
and with (limited) video capabitilies. i just got an X5 (30gb, but it
comes in 20gb too) thanks to reading the last thread on LAU on this
topic. it mounts easy as pie as a USB drive, and plays oggs. besides
working well with linux, it had all the features i was looking for (fm
tuner, fm record, line in encoding, jpeg display, high power sound) i
would recommend it (shop around, i found it for cheaper than the cowon
"jet audio" online store). the only thing i could complain about is
the line-in jack, usb plug and ac power is on a little expansion port
that you have to plug into the bottom. supported by rockbox too, but
i haven't had a need/desire to try it out yet.

I never had heard of Cowon iAudio devices and I'm amazed. It supports
OGG and FLAC apart from MP3 which would be a plus for me. I love FLAC
and other loseless for classical music which suffers a lot when
encoded to loosy formats on almost all bitrates.
But, even better, I can put there a GPL firmware! What can Rockbox
make for me if I buy a, let's say, iAudio X5 device?
If using an X5 with Rockbox I can:
- Listen to music in MP3 and FLAC formats
- Store photos as JPEG at full size (let's say 1600x1200)
- View MPEG4 (DivX or XviD) films
- Listen to FM
Then this is certainly my dreamed machine.
Any comments?

Hi dear list, i am out of ideas, the error is follow: "jackd: symbol
lookup error: jackd: undefined symbol: jack_tmpdir" when i try to call
jack simply as /jackd -dalsa i dont know what to do, im on a gentoo box
amd64 arch, and jack always worked before, ive noticed this one week
ago, and tried uninstalling jack reemerge it and with a lot of different
versions, my fstab line entry regarding tmpfs is as follows:
"none /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0"
any help is pretty much appreciated.

I believe I've seen some videos showing iRiver support via Aqualung.
Please check with the developers as to what models, etc. might
actually be known to work as I've never personally used this feature.
This page does mention some shortcut keys for the iRiver.

I got a new H120 here in australia 2 months ago. Works very well with
rockbox. Not sure about other countries though.
