Hello. What open source and free(dom) reverbs do we have available?
I authored GVerb and wish to have something better.
What free (possibly not open source) reverbs do you use?
What kind of reverb presets people use for vocals?
Lately I have listened to Madonna's Confessions tour DVD
which has good reverb effects. I would like to know more
about that kind of working presets. Also, Timbaland uses good
vocal processings (Nelly Furtado/Say it right, Timbaland/
The way I are). I would like to know more if I wish to
develop such a vocal reverb myself.

There are a couple of excellent reverb opcodes in Csound (which
is now either GPL or LGPL).The reverbsc opcode is one I liked.

TAP Reverberator is also a standalone program where you can edit much
more as in the ladspa plugin, then you can load this as a preset in ladspa.

Ambience, Transverb, Classic Reverb

Aliki ('Alice' in Greek) is the application for measuring impulse
responses, not a reverb program.
The convolution engine is Jconv (mixed partition sizes, zero delay).
An older version is Jace (uniform partittion size, more CPU for zero
delay). Both are command line JACK apps and use the same config files.
In preparation: Aella, convolution engine with GUI and optimised
for reverb use. Features:
- Multi-channel, multi-input reverb, each input a has a separate
set of early reflections with a shared reverb tail.
- Editing of reverb profile in three frequency bands, allows to
completely modify the character of a captured real reverb.
Also available: Stereo Reverb LADSPA plugin, and (not released, but
just drop me a line) the Ambisionic reverb used in Aeolus as a JACK
client.

I use jconv and I love it. It's a very fast, very nice convolution reverb. Sky's
the limit in terms of different kinds of reverbs; all you need are impulses and there are
tons of them freely available (or use aliki to record your own).
I also find myself using the L/C/R LADSPA reverb plugin occasionally too.

I usually end up using freeverb with some pre- and/or post-processing

Replying to myself:
I built jconv on my 32-bit machine, it sounds beautiful with lucia.conf
after some adjustments.
However: It is, as Fons makes clear, an alpha project intended for a
more full-featured incarnation. At this time it has no GUI and depends
upon configuration files edited by the user. The configs aren't
difficult to figure out, but I'm sure that aspect will discourage some
users. That's not a big deal right now, given the status of the app. And
again I must stress that it *sounds* great.
By contrast, the SIR plugin is a mature application with a directly
usable GUI (no Ph.D. necessary; hi Jan!) and excellent sound quality.
When Fons has his GUI convolver finished I'm sure it'll be a contender,
but meanwhile the SIR plugin can hold the line just fine. :)
Maybe it's about time for a Linux convolution reverb showdown ?
